Posts: 1544 02/20/08 9:34 PM	Tags : None I just replaced my battery last summer and had it on a tender most of the winter. I went out last saturday to start it up and it won't even turn the nuetral light on! I charged it all day, still nothing! I took it out and returned it to AutoZone. It was 9 months old. The AutoZone manager went over to the shelf and got a brand new battery and said "there you go"! I asked him what the warranty was and he said "30, 60, 90 days", I don't know, but I'm gonna take care of it! NO CHARGE! Thats what I call service! Thanks AutoZone!!!!!!!! HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3706 02/20/08 10:45 PM	My past experiences with Auto Zone batteries tells me you'll be back next year for the same deal. I went through 3 of them over an 8 month period on my CB650SC Nighthawk, and 2 truck batteries within 4 years. The warranties are good, but the aggravation of having to swap them out was wearing on me too much, so I have sworn off their batteries for now. My niece is he head manager at our local AZ store and I get a discount through her, but to me they are not even worth that. The one I bought through Advance Auto Parts has lasted me 3 summers('05,'06,and '07), but is slowly dieing on me now. I think I'll buy another one soon. It's funny how the same battery has such different life spans. I now have an Interstate battery. For what I paid for that thing, it should outlive the bike. Bob

Posts: 883 02/22/08 8:20 AM	Perhaps all their good customer service is a protective device? this could very well be true. friend of mine who has an auto shop here was buying a/c compressors from them and had many come back...and yes he is a certified a/c guy and knows what he's doing on the installation. i have four auto parts stores within a few blocks of my house and generally avoid auto zone as much as i can simply because most of their employees know NOTHING about cars. if it's not in their computer, they are dumbfounded. i take most of my business to an o'reilly parts store near me as the guys know about cars and they go out of their way to get the part you need. if they don't have it and it's at their warehouse, they'll have it for you the next morning. they also have a customer appreciation day twice a year. put on a huge feedbag in their back parking lot. no big deal, but it is a way of saying thanks to their customers. one last thing.... they will match any price from other parts stores. bud

When I was into Street Rod building I use to fabricate a lot of stuff for my cars. I use to like going through the parts departments of auto stores just looking for this-and-that that might fit an application I was working on. One time I was trying to fabricate a lower cooling hose hook up between my radiator and the water pump and I needed a hose that took some pretty weird bends. I ask the clerk if I could just walk up and down the aisles in the stockroom to just look for something that would fit my application. That clerk just couldn't stop trying to help me by asking me a ton of questions about what I was trying to do. Since he couldn't relate to my "ideas" he could never have helped me. Finally in near frustration I got ready to walk out of the auto parts store, when a old timer behind the counter told the kid to; "just let him go back there, he knows what he's looking for". I found it too. I use to also have a few select junk yards that would allow me to just walk through the yard "shopping". Whenever I call or check the web for prices, AZ is almost always cheapest. There's a reason for that. They are selling inferior parts. Most auto repair shops will not buy parts from them because they know there is a good chance of re-work. That is money out of their pocket spending time replacing an inferior part (even though it's under warranty). If you're doing your own work and don't mind replacing a water pump or alternator a few times, then AZ may be right for you. For good parts, NAPA and Carquest are still preferred by the independent repair shops. When you're at your local mechanic, see what delivery truck is there, ask where they get their parts from. duke loud horns save lives

Posts: 883 02/22/08 12:59 PM	i think all the parts stores are beginning to stock foriegn items. one beef i had with o'reilly last year was they had quit stocking STANT radiator caps. i've used them all my life and always had good luck with the product. now all o'reilly has is a cap made in Isreal. that may not be a bad thing, but not what i expected of o'reilly's. i have a napa store right across the street from me, and i believe they do have good products, but also have the unfriendiest counter people around. when i had my old customs, they seemed to be able to get the older parts for cars much better than some of the others. i do like carquest, but not one near me. bud

When I need major parts I almost always use napa, their parts have never let me down. Autozone is for batteries, oil, most filters and other simple auto care stuff. HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 210 03/06/08 3:31 PM Tail Gunner	some time ago,i bought a new duralast gold battery for my truck. i went to get in it saturday morning and it wouldn't crank. great, so i jump it off and head back to autozone. i had taped the receipt in a plastic bag to the battery when i bought it too. guy checks the battery and says yea its bad. i look at my receipt and it says 36 month free replacement warrenty. on the bottom of my receipt was the date i bought the battery. 1/20/2005. i was over by one month and the guy said he would prorate the new battery but thats all. it still cost me $ 45.00 dollars to replace it. and if it had went out a month earlier it would've been free. go figure.

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3706 03/06/08 11:09 PM	I've always had good luck with Everstart from Wal-mart. Last one I bought for my '89 GMC truck was still going after 6 years. I sold the truck last year with that battery in it. It was only the second Everstart battery, and 3rd battery the truck ever had in it within 189k miles and 17 years.
