LC finally done |
Lead | ||
|
been a long winter, but think i finally have the LC finished. took all the tins off and did a very deep detailing, installed an alarm system, made my own
lowering links and lowered the bike an 1 1/2", re-jetted the carbs to a stage three system, added new saddlebags, installed complete new rear
wheel/tire/brake system, and numerous items of chrome and leather. even got a little saddle time in the last few days here in kansas city. bike runs/rides
great, but gotta say i'm still not happy with the green color. it may still come back apart and get painted. later, bud

Great job Bud.....I almost need sunglasses to look at these photos. This bike has beautiful curves. Had you thought of using more rounded saddlebags so the
tops comform to the top of the fenders? What are you thinking of if you decide to repaint?

Looks good, bud. There are some shades of green that I don't care for, but I really like the shade of yours with the silver accent. I would not change a
thing.......except maybe add a light bar. To me a big bike looks better with a light bar.

thanks for the compliments guys. really appreciated after all the work i did on this one.
alain, when i got this bike it had smaller willie and max bags on it that i just didn't care for. i love huge bags on a bike, especially these bikes, as they have a longer wheelbase than the harley roadking...really big bikes. think the huge bags is one of the things that attracts me to the indians/drifters with the big esprey bags. lots of guys on the LC forum are putting the harley hard bags on these bikes, but at $500 plus for a set, i just wasn't going there! anyway, i went looking for the biggest set of bags i could find and this is what i came up with. they are river road bags. as far as color, when i first got the bike and thought about painting it, i was leaning toward a pearl yellow, but just couldn't find exactly what i wanted. so many of the pearl yellows change to an orange tint when in the sun. i would probably go with basic black, or a pearl black. stan, thanks for the input on the green. i'm with you on that, as far as greens go, this is a pretty green...especially in the sun, but green is just not my color. every time i add something to the bike, i think it'll make me like it better, but just hasn't "tripped my trigger" yet! as far as the lightbar, i thought about it and have watched ebay to try and find a cheap one, but the one weak point of these bikes is the stator. they had a lot of problems with them. i had to replace the one on the '01 LC i had a couple years ago, and i know the lightbars pull a lot of juice. i do like the looks of them on the front also. at o'reillys the other day i looked at a neat set of driving lights i may get for it and mount on the engine guards. they are small, but all chrome and nice looking for around 40 bucks a set. roger, more than likely the color will remain the same. i said something to lillian last night about just selling it and looking for something else(a T ), but she said i should just paint it if that's all that was
keeping me from liking it. problem with painting is i've added a lot of pieces that i'd ruin if i took the bike apart again, and then i'd have to
make them all over.
thanks fred, this one was certainly a "fixer upper". it only has 9k miles, but think it was "rode hard and put up wet"! it was one of the dirtiest bikes i've ever bought, but i could see past that and knew it would clean up nicely. later, bud

Bud, I believe that I saw where someone had LED driving light replacement bulbs now. Might want to check on it. Also, most of the bargain driving/fog lights
pull 55W...the same as for bikes, but there are 35W replacement bulbs being offered now that cuts the current draw.

thanks stan,
seems i read something about the 35w bulbs also, i'll have to check into it. i'm sure i'll end up putting something up there. the ones at o'reillys were LEDs. i'm sure i could take them back if i didn't like them. the older Goldwings had charging problems also and i always figured that was because of all the lighting guys hung on them. when i meet a bike with the lightbars, can't help but think to myself i need some more lights up front. just hate to shell out the $250 or so for a new light bar set-up. that truck stop i go to has some nice lights, next time i'm there will check to see what they have. also, on the LC site, there's a "how to" on making your own light bar that looks pretty neat. mark, thanks, just what i was going for....the WOW factor!

Bud,
All I can say is "WOW". I know how you feel about the colour thing as I have changed a couple of bikes over the years because I didn't like the colour. I think your bike has a rather unique colour combination that would almost place it in the rare category. As green happens to be one of my favourite colours, I wouldn't change a thing (of course I'm biased). I'm sure if you take a poll this summer, nine out of ten people will absolutely love the colour combination of your bike. Well done! John |
