I know Dan has different ideas, but take satisfaction knowing that you were able to enjoy riding and ended on your terms. Andy |

What a crock of crap!!
Keep telling yourself that. It's almost as big a crock as "He died doing what he loved". That's BS too. Dead is dead. And nobody wants to do it! If you're doing something that you have to keep reconvencing yourself that it's what you want, then I have my doubts. If you want to quit riding because you don't have the stomach for it or it scars the crap out of you, then that's a different story. Just my 2 cents. -Dan

Youse guys are gettin crazier than pooh. It's a machine!!!! My toaster oven died..... sigh...... if we could've only shared just one more hot dog or
slice of burnt toast. Didja ya miss me???? I'm still in Arizona, but most of the RV'ers have gone home. THAT sure speeds up the traffic flow in Yuma.
I'm thinking of getting a wing or a trike.......... for my 80th birthday. Until I got to Arizona I'd never seen so many fat old people on motorcycles.
And no wonder the rear seats on the wings are so wiiide. Anyhow, after the first hundred degree day we're heading north. Fight nice youse guys. I'm
tired of everybody's shit......... I ride em'..... if it ain't broke I don't fix it and if it doesn't keep me from riding I fix it later.
Oil's oil and tires are tires and chrome is for showoffs and fringe is for........... keep em honest Dan.

Stony,
The Venture my friend has is an '84 model, I think, and had 33,000 miles on it when he bought last August. He bought it in Searcy, AR and rode it back to Houston. He had to first replace the tires, since it still had the factory, 23 year old tires on it!! He gave like 3500 bucks for it with the Voyager kit on it. That thing runs like a top, but the gas mileage stinks. I think if it had a carb rebuild and a good tune up it would do better. Glad you enjoyed the prank!! I always enjoy a good joke. I'll be glad when the snow melts up north and some of those folks attitudes improve. By the way. I still have that '99 Valkyrie Interstate Motor Trike for sale!!! -Dan

Dan,
A little over 5 years ago a drunk driver passed out behind the wheel and hit me from behind doing 45mph. I was parked. I have a pretty bad herniated disk in my neck, and I exercise and take drugs to avoid the surgery. The trailer I tow behind the T often has a cervical traction unit in it when we tour. The riding position on a Gold Wing leaves we with an aching/burning right bicep after about 10 minutes of riding that eventually creeps up into my shoulder, causing a headache. So I don't think I'll get a Wing. Cruisers provide me with a numb throttle hand on trips over 30 minutes. The numbness comes and goes. I have a throttle lock, but I'd like electronic cruise control. I've even tried to rub a little dirt on it and stop whining, but it still goes numb. Anyway (to make a short story long). I don't ever remember seeing a Valkyrie with cruise. Does your trike have cruise control?

Ok Rich. No more 'till the snow melts. Then...........I'll be back!!
Stony, No. The Valk does not have cruise. Just a VistaCruise throttle lock. However, the Valkyrie Riders Cruisers Club website has the instructions for installing a MagnaVox automobile cruise control on the Valk. Looks pretty easy. I don't have a REALLY bad back, but I do have a messed up Ulnar nerve in my right elbow. It makes my pinky and the finger next to it go numb on my right hand. It happens any time I ride or set with it in the same position for very long doing anything. Just a nusance!!! The seating position on the Goldwing is the only thing that I have issues with. It is kinda sport bikish, but not totally. I am told I will get used to it. We'll see. When we get back from this 2500 mile loop in a couple of weeks, I may have a DFT/GW for sale!! I was out in the garage setting on the Valky M/T Sunday afternoon, for it's weekly start up. I like the seating position much better than the GW. Time will tell. -Dan

We've been in Florida since November. Being from Wisconsin, we would laugh when people down here complained it was cold at 50 degrees. Less than 6
months after we got here, my wife pointed out that I had been FLORIDIZED when I complained it only got up to 68 one day. Actually, if I never see snow again,
it will be too soon.

Stony,
The latest Venture style is the one that I am speaking of that some of them whine so bad they drive their owners to sell them. I have demoed three Ventures, all for about 26 miles each. I did not notice the gear whine until I was listening for it on the third ride (after having read about it). I do believe you dealer is full of it. Ventures get 32 to34 mpg. My recommendation besides taking a very long test ride is to find a Venture forum and find out everything about that bike before you buy one.

Hi Dan: Sue's Yamaha will hit the auction block in a few weeks. I have sold my pull behind trailer and will keep my cargo trailer as I use it to haul
lots of other things. I will sell the wheel chocks (Pingel) once it warms up enough to crawl under the trailer and turn the nuts. Bob

Stony, go to
http://www.spoiledbiker.com/ and check out their electronic
cruise unit. It's not cheap but they have a model to fit the Valk perfectly.
The Venture I was referring to is also the newer 2007 and 2004 models. I am just relaying what the owners tell me about them. I tried an '86 model Royale a few years back and it handled like a bear in the tight turns. The newer models (I'm told) handle better than the old. The Wing only gets about 8 more mpg than the Venture and is also top heavy. Not as much as the Venture or the BMW K1200LT, but more so than the Wing. If you have long legs then it should not be much of a problem. Stan

Thanks Fred & Dan for the extra information. I did have some concerns about handling, and the mpgs I'm hearing from you sound more in line with what a
heavy, carbureted bike would probably get. That Venture is over 800 pounds dry.
I'm starting to get the impression that I may already have the right bike for me--and as my wife keeps reminding me: "It's already paid for!" Dan, the cruise control for the Valk looked pretty good. That would definitely have me considering a Valk Interstate/Motor Trike conversion again. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to add a trike, the crappy real estate market has forced me to watch my pennies a lot closer than I had wanted to. My initial plans were not to swap two wheels for three, but to add a trike to my fleet of toys and set up the T as a solo bike. Also, I wanted something that could take a heavy tongue weight on the back without going through a rear tire once a year. I'd still like to do that some day, but..... In early June we have our state CMA rally. Last year there were a couple of guys who had pretty big pop-up trailers. (One of them even had a small air conditioner along for the pop-up.) They had each fabricated a tow dolly. It had a very short tongue, an axle with 2-8" wheels, a platform on top of the axle for carrying stuff, and a hitch ball for attaching their trailers. It looked a little odd, but they succeeded in shifting the tongue weight from the bike to the dolly. Both of their pop ups had trailer brakes. One of them offered to send me the plans last year, but I lost his phone number. If I get the plans this year I'll post them up, along with pics, to the trailer and towing thread.
