But on the other hand if I go alone there is no pressure on me to stop as often as I want and take all the pictures I want to. Please tell me what ever possesses you to go from Sacramento to Gettysburg? Are you motorcycling the whole route? If you are a Civil War buff you've picked the granddaddy of them all to visit! I've been there twice and now my wife has asked that we go there to visit again. I hope you plan to spend more than one day there, because one day just won't do it. When you do make this trip, don't forget about the rest of us. We all know that your handy with the camera and your good with the narrative, so remember the rest of us and take us along with you in pictures. I really enjoy the west and hope to return one day so I can ride the year round again. My daughter just mentioned becoming a teacher after high school. I will have her read your story.

There is nothing like helping a kid who doesn't get it to finally understand. Teaching is a frustrating job. I always tell people who want to try teaching to go out and get a job for the worst boss possible. Then, when teaching gets hard, you can always say it isn't as bad as my old job. Alepel - I went to Gettysburg a couple of years ago with my 12 year old daughter. If you have ever tried touring a historical site with a kid, you know how frustrating that can be. My Great-grandfather fought for the North, but not at Gettysburg. If there is such a thing a sacred place for Americans, this has to be near the top. I want to go there and walk with the ghosts. I want to see all the places I couldn't see with my daughter, and I want to see all the places I was with my daughter. She is adopted and has severe emotional problems. She had to go into residential treatment a year ago. They are able to do things for her that my wife and I couldn't do no matter how hard we tried. In another year or two, she may be able to come home. I look forward to traveling with her again. David PS I couldn't figure how to make the nice little quotes within boxes that some of you do.

If you have ever tried touring a historical site with a kid, you know how frustrating that can be. Yes and No! I was blessed to have two children who were very good kids. We always included them in everything. I remember when my daughter was about three weeks old we took her on vacation to the Connecticut shore. I wanted to tour the WW II submarine at Groton and we took her with us. During our tour of the submarine a woman on the tour looks at us and asks if our child is a newborn and we said yes. She was amazed at us for taking our daughter with us. And it was like that for us ever since. Where we went, they went too. And they were genuinely interested in everything we did. Now in my senior years we get together and talk about the many places we had been to, and my kids have to remind me of some of the things we did, because I have forgotten so many of them. So I know that those events made lasting impressions on both of them. I don't think you mentioned it but are you going to Gettysburg on the motorcycle? On one of my trips to Gettysburg there was a museum of sorts that contained Diorama's of Charlie Weaver. Many people don't know this but Charlie Weaver was passionate about creating Diorama's of the Civil War. Well this museum has his Diorama's on display and it is spectacular to see the depictions of battles at Gettysburg. I put a beaded seat on my stock seat from Bead Rider, http://www.beadrider.com Now my rear doesn't seem to wear out as soon. Still, I can only get about 400 miles out of a day. I'm only going to try and average 300 to 400 miles per day on the summer trip. I'm not a history teacher, but my grandmother lived with us when I was growing up. The past was a living memory for her and she passed that on to me. I teach California history in my classroom. I make arrowheads and weave baskets to show the kids. Our big field trip for the year is to Coloma, where gold was discovered that started the California gold rush. David
