HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 732 09/27/05 4:55 PM	MMR - I just visited the Dunlop website and found the only recommended tire is the D206 with inflation levels well below your recommendations. As a tire tester, why have they not incorporated your feedback in their recommendations? As I got a puncture last Sunday leaving the Oyster Run in Anacortes, I will be purchasing a new rear tire this week. Thanks to all of you for bringing this information to the uninformed. What effect does fix-a-flat have on tires? I'm just happy that I had a patch kit and a can of fix-a-flat in my saddlebag. p.s. If I cannot find someone locally to install my tire(s), I may have to make take a ferry ride to Seattle to visit you and take you up on your kind offer to mount tires. Just send me a post to MillionMileRider@aol.com and I will send you my cell phone number, so we can arrange a time. Next, Dunlop does not listen to me about the D-206, because...I have done NO testing for them on that particular model of tire. My testing for Dunlop was on the D-250 radials, and the new Elite 3 radials. On the D-250 radials, Dunlop listened to what I had been advising them for more than a year, and finally upped the air pressures for that tire when used on a Goldwing 1800. Now, what time of day was it, and where...did you get this flat on the way home from the Oyster Run? I ask because I too was at the Oyster Run. Let me know if I can be of any help with changing that tire. You do have a pretty good shop over in Bremerton, the Brothers Honda dealer. At least they were fairly decent to me. But if you don't want to go to them, then by all means come on down. Er...that should be...Come on UP, as I am north of you. If you do ride over to here, lunch is on me. Million Mile Rider

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 732 09/27/05 11:10 PM	I noticed the flat tire as I was entering Deception Pass Park, headed for the ferry to Port Townsend - a beautiful ride and the easiest way home for those of us on the west side of Puget Sound. I should have posted and asked if anyone else was going prior to the run. It would have been nice to meeet you. I found a nice gentlman (Taber's Precision Cycles) in Gorst that specializes on Goldwings and Valks. He can get me the Elite 3, 180/70R/16 for $201.82 plus mounting, balancing and tax. That's cheaper than my J&P catalog. As I am not a motorcycle mechanic, it will be good to establish a contact for any future work as well. Thanks for the offer of lunch, I may take you up on it, But I'm only good for about 400 miles a day. It has been my experience that good enough, isn't.

Taber's is a very good shop, and I forgot to mention them. The price for the tire is way high, especially if that price does not include mounting, balancing, and tax. Wow, for that price you could get both a front and a back tire, and I would mount and balance them both, for free. I paid $ 262.00, delivered to my front door, for a set of Dunlop Elite 3 radials for my 1800 Wing, and then I mounted and balanced them at no cost. You can bet that if your price is $ 201.82 and then add mounting, balancing, and tax on top of that, you will be paying more for ONE tire than I paid for both tires of the same Elite 3's. Check online at mawonline.com, that is Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse, and you can buy the tires much cheaper than at J&P. If you want, order the tires, have them shipped to my house, and then you can ride over here and I will install them for free. MillionMileRider

Scott.....I am anticipating the purchase of at least a new rear tire, so I was criusing all of the Tire posts to familiarize myself with all that has been said so far to date. I came across this posting from you and it raised a few questions in my mind. First off, how do you like the Dunlop Elite 3's now that you've had them for awhile? Second question, where did you find the rear tire for $127.95? If it was at mawonline.com I went there and found the tire at $185. Third question and then I'll stop. I heard some rumors about him that I won't repeat. He fell out of favor with the long distance riding fraternity. I don't know if any of it was true, I didn't ask. I just stayed out of it. Dawn bought E3s for Jasmine Wind. She had a post on here about it. I think she got a pretty good deal. The Valkerie sized rear tire will cause whoever mounts the tire some problems due to width during reassembly, but it fits great once inside the fender. Scott "Silence is golden, duct tape is silver"

This is a true statement. I had the rear Valk E3 mounted the other day and they commented on how they had to inflate it to 100 psi to get the bead to seat, even after using soapy water on the bead. HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 401 05/08/08 10:55 AM	Hey Alain, Want to hear my two cents? Tough, you're getting it any way. I have had the Dunlop E3's and the Avon Venom R's both on Dixie. For the life of me, I can't decide if one is better than the other. Both greatly improved the handling of Dixie over the OEM Dunlops. Mileage is looking to be the same. Both improved gas milage. The OEM's stuck like glue, but were just too soft and wore out too quick. I'll be honest and tell you that looks of both the E3's and the Venom R's didn't instill a great deal of confidence in me at first. They just seemed to have far to much flat, non-tread pattern area on them. But I put both of them to the test in hellish rainstorms, and believe me, they stick. I buy the Gold Wing sized tires because they are a little lower profile, which suites my short legs. Even though you don't need the lower profile as much as I do, the little extra bend in your knees at stop signs is comforting to most people. I suggest that you buy whichever one, E3 or Venom R, you can get at a better price. You won't be sorry. My front tire still looks brand new and I do not see any cracking even though I suspect this is the original OEM front tire. Hey....I didn't think I was taller than you until I looked at our photo again. Thought I'd just throw this one in too. My E3 rear tire has 13000 miles and still looks like more and I just put an E3 on the front then took an 1100 mile ride (two up). The handling was great and the wear is minimal. My only complaint is they are a little noisy on some surfaces. Still, they are durable and sticky.. Seems a good combination...Hope this helps some..Bob <><
