Sad, but true.
Our friend from Malta (off the coast of Italy) just told us that their gas is now $10.63 a gallon!! Live It, Love It, Paint It, Ride It!

If I remember correctlyfrom when I was there, if you took all of the lanes, streets, roads, highways, and layed them all end to end, they probably wouldn't
stretch a couple of hundred miles. You can get anywhere you want on Malta by bicycle in a reasonanble period of time. Gasoline is what I would consider a
luxury item there. Scooters are the main source of transportation. At $10 a gallon you could possible go to work and back all week.

One of the locals has designed a different approach to hydrogen fuel powered vehicles. Most everyone else was trying to design a car that could safely carry a
tank of hydrogen fuel w/o risk of explosion in a crash. Another draw back to this design was providing refill stations as plentiful as gasoline stations. Well,
this local college instructor who is also a long time ASE mechanic came up with a way for a vehicle to generate hydrogen within the vehicle. This only required
the vehicle to have to have a small and safe water storage tank on board. He has applied for a patent on his new system that has been proven to work on several
different vehicles so far. In order to satisfy the computer sensors and various electronic emission's control systems, the vehicle is required to burn a
small amount of gasoline. He installed the system on his V8 Cadillac that got around 17-20 mpg. He toped off the tank with gas, then drove the car 53 miles and
then toped the tank off again. It held only 1 gallon of gas meaning he was now getting 53 mpg.
Hydrogen burns hotter than gasoline and can cause the engine to run hotter as a result. Whenever the temperature sensor detects that the engine is running hotter than usual, it automatically switches on the gasoline only valve until it cools back down, and then will go back to hydrogen again. The hydrogen generator is mounted under the hood and has a direct connection to the fuel injectors. Therefore there is very little risk of an explosion in the event of a crash. The system installed cost $5500 for most vehicles and he is already getting requests from business fleets to install the system on their trucks. I'll be watching this closely as it develops into a mass produced system and hopefully a lower cost to install. Stan
