accessories...where to buy |

just wondered where most of you go for accessories. i had some items ordered from cruiser customizing and it's been on back order for two weeks and now
they're saying another week...if you can believe that. i've ordered from j&p, but their shipping and "handling fees" add a lot to the
order. i got a mustang fender bib for the last LC i had...sold for around $34 bucks and by the time i got it, was nearly $44. just thought that was a little
excessive.
so, where do you guys shop? thanks, bud

I have tried a lot of places, but for most stuff, the best price/service/products has come from Cruiser Customizing
Shipping is fair, and if you combine items, it gets real cheap. Recently bought the Breakaway cruise control and Kuryakin pegs for my wifes Ace. Really satisfied with everything, only bad thing was I ordered them a couple days apart, could have saved on shipping if I ordered them together, so save up your "wish" list and order all at once, big shipping savings. |

that's who keeps backordering my parts. wouldn't have been so upset if they'd said right from the beginning they were not in stock, but since i
ordered online, didn't know right away they were not available, then waited 'til the 12th(when they were supposed to be shipped)didn't hear from
them and when i finally contacted them, told me now it will be the 19th before they are shipped...maybe. i realize they are at the mercy of the suppliers, but
they could notify a customer about the backorder and update the expected shipping date instead of the customer having to get in touch with them.
plus, didn't realize when i ordered they didn't have an 800 number. i hardly ever deal with a company that doesn't have an 800 number. maybe i should have this in the rant section. jmho. bud |

My top providers are ebay (includes Kuryakyn clearance shop), local shops (dealerships and independent shops), Dennis Kirk, Cruiser Customizing and JC Whitney.
I don't think I've ever bought much of anything at rallies and shows.

thanks guys,
UPDATE: finally broke down and called cruisercustomizing this morning as my online order now said it was being shipped. yesterday, it said it would be the 19th. suppose to ship out in the next 24 hours. wanted to add to the order, but they said they couldn't...don't understand that if it's not been shipped yet. guess i may go back to J&P, as they do give great customer service, just wasn't happy with all the "extra" that was added to an order, but on the other hand, they have an 800 number and are very good about returns, etc. guess i need a little more sleep, just not my best week. had my favorite aunt pass away sunday night. she was 96, so guess it was time. she was in the same nursing home as my mom, so i got to see her last weekend when i went to visit my mom on mother's day. knew then she didn't have long. going to be hard on my mom as they were very close and with her now being in the nursing home and going past where my aunt was all the time. anyway, lack of sleep makes bud a real pest to be around....can you say "old grouch?" bud |

Sorry to hear about your aunt, also the troubles with Cruizer Customizing. I have never had a problem, always ship fast and they communicate well.
As for adding to the order, a big company usually can't do that. Once they get an order in the pipeline, it is very hard to intercept it. Some go the extra mile, but not most. I run a very small online web site selling detailing supplies and a few accessories. Since I am a one-man band, if I haven't shipped an order, I will change, add, delete or cancel. It means I have to re-do the paperwork, and sometimes, re-box things, but it doesn't happen often and it is good customer service that can make me a little different from the rest. I don't blame bigger companies when they can't do that. |

I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt, Bud.
Our top picks for ordering parts and accessories: JP Cycles(great service and quick responses to questions) ebay, ebay, ebay (caveat emptor) Dennis Kirk And our new fav, Jireh - their prices are great, they have ultra-fast shipping, and they now carry metric. I ordered a luggage rack (85-03XL/121-8) for the back fender of the T from their HD catalog, and it was less than $25 (compared to $60 - $100). Fits perfectly! One of the reasons I ordered my tires from Dennis Kirk was because they actually have a phone number on their website (and nice folks who answer the phone). Some of the tire places will only deal with you via email - that's just crappy service as far as I'm concerned. I would rather pay a few bucks more to get personal service instead of an automated email response. Good on ya, DynoDon: "good customer service that can make me a little different from the rest"! I think that's why some folks prefer smaller vendors. I try to treat each of my customers as I would treat a friend, and that's why my customers come back time and time again, and send more clients to me. Sometimes it costs me extra time or a few bucks to go the extra mile, but I gain so much by doing so. Live It, Love It, Paint It, Ride It!

dawn,
i just checked out the jireh site. they do have a lot of stuff and pretty good prices, but since i live in missouri, it would be another 7.6% taxes. guess i could have it sent to lillians house over in kansas. like it they have a toll free number. thing i didn't like about J&P was the "handling fee" and the fact you have to become a "member" to get better prices. as far as business, i've worked for myself nearly 20 years and don't even advertise...anywhere! it's all word of mouth and i've always felt that was the best advertising. i also "bend over backwards" for my customers and have much repeat business now. oh, i do furniture repair and restoration and i love my work....think that makes a big difference. AND, i still DO NOT have the items i ordered from cruiser customizing may 2nd! bud |
