Rode 600 miles with an Indian, two Harley's, Beemer, three Yamaha's and four of us Honda's this past weekend. Spent the whole weekend push starting
the Indian, and the Beemer. Harley Heritage Soft Tail dropped it's oil tank plug and sprayed everybody. The Indian rider is a very good roadside mechanic.
He's had lot's of practice!!!

Thanks for the write-up Dan. What a trip that was!
I worked with a guy in Indiana who would take long trips on an old Harley just to see what would happen and if he would make it to where he planned on going. Of course, he did not care whether he made it to where he planned, he was just having fun one way or the other.

It was a fun trip.
I used to be in the Houston chapter of the Southern Cruisers. There was the older guy, retired from NASA, (he was one the flight control engineers in the control room when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon!!).....anyway, he rides this 1988 Electra Glide with a custom American Flag paint job. Every ride with him is an interesting experience. He never gets back with all the parts he leaves with. Bike had close to 300,000 miles on it. On it's fourth engine!! But, he's retired. No hurry. -Dan

Dan.....I loved your story. It started my day off with a lot of chuckles. It darn near sounds like a comedy routine someone came up with. In fact I dare to say
it sounded as funny to read as Road Hogs was too watch. I also read further down about the hay bale and that was hilarious too.
Thanks for sharing.

Dan,
It seems that people on other forums get all upset when the topic of a thread changes or heaven forbid someone posts something that is "off-topic" meaning not pertaining to Honda CBR1000 motorcycles if it is a Honda CBR1000 motorcycle forum. Personally I find all the twists and turns our threads take interesting and much more fun than just sticking to the topic the thread started with and especially more interesting than "on-topic" only stuff. Our thread seem organic to me. They just follow our thoughts, just like conversations IRL.

Just read about the new Chief line of Indians. Can anyone explain to me their reasoning in starting price at $31,000 for the base model and going up from
there? That is starting into the custom bike market and above most everything HD makes except maybe the CVO Ultra. I always loved the aesthetics of the
Indians, especially the Vintage models, but for 35+ large, I will be looking from afar.

Jim,
I am surprised to hear that is the base price too. Their previous models were way over-priced. Their prices were as high as Harley Screaming Eagles, yet their quality was very sub-standard, actually to the point that it made Harleys look extremely reliable in comparison. Even if Indian has much better quality now, somebody would really have to want an Indian to pay that kind of money. Are there enough rich people that really want an Indian?

somebody would really have to want an Indian to pay that kind of money. Are there enough rich people that really want an Indianwell i really want an indian, but unfortunetely NO, i'm not rich! i took about a 40 mile ride out of kansas city today to have lunch at a little diner i like. on the way out, passed a guy on an indian chief (newer one). they sure are neat looking. his was white with red trim and black/red leather seat and bags. very "old school" looking. probably be the first thing i'd buy if i won the lottery, but that's probably not going to happen either, as i never buy a ticket! bud |
