Thursday I took the day off to accompany my brother to pick up new Yamaha Venture Royale. It was supposed to be a two day trip but we did it in one.

My brother rented a Chevy Silverado at $55 a day from Enterpise to drive to Michigan to pick up this eighty something Yamaha Venture Royale. It took us 9 hours of driving to get there, one hour to examine the bike and load it in the pick-up and then 9 hours driving to get back. We left about 8:00 AM in the morning and returned about 3:00 AM the following morning. I was tired, exhausted and cranky by the time we got back. It was all easy enough to do but my brother can talk the ears off of an African elephant. I pretty much had enough of listening to my brother talking for the 18 hour trip.

I brought my camera along to take pictures but it was raining so much that I did not attempt to stand in the rain to shot pictures of the bike while we examined it and loaded it into the pick-up of the truck. Besides that I was not terribly impressed by the bike that my brother bought. I personally felt that it was too "Beat" to buy. I told my brother that if he had asked me I would have told him to walk away. My brother told me that this was the reason he did not ask me!

My brother sees a lot of potential in this bike. He is happy with it and that is all that matters. He got the bike for $1800 and he says that he can enjoy the refurbishing of this bike as a hobby. This much about him I do understand. I personally would never undertake such a project, but I do not know anywhere near as much about motorcycles as my brother does.

We had intended to make a two day trip out of this, but after loading the bike into the bed of the pickup we started 9 hour return trip home and never stopped until we pulled into my driveway at 3:00 AM this morning. A few hours sleep and we took the bike to his house. The Silverado pickup as a bike hauler worked great. This is the second time I've done this and I really like transporting a motorcycle this way. The truck like I said cost $55 a day but the gas was a killer. All total for the 18 hour drive about 1,000 miles my brother spent over $350 in gas. I told my brother that for another $200 I could have bought a motorcycle trailer and we could have towed the bike home with a more fuel efficient vehicle. I've got to believe that next year I am buying a used motorcycle trailer.

Well right now I am still exhausted and a bit cranky, so I feel a nap coming on.

alan.....no problem. Somewhere during the 18 hours of chewing on my ear, my brother did mention the problem with the jumping out of second gear. I believe my brother said that the year of the Yamaha he bought was after that reported problem. So I'm guessing he's okay. Well he's not really okay but it is a figure of speech.
