Best way to ship Exhaust? |
Lead | ||
|
I have sold the stock mufflers to another forum brother. Just wondering what the best way to ship them? UPS or Fedex? Do I box them together or just wrap them
good? I don't live close to UPS store so I would have to have them picked up. I have never shipped anything so any thoughts would be appreicated.
Thanks Wild Man

belive it or not, the U.S.P.S has become the cheapest way to ship. i used to use FedEx, but i recently sold the roadhouse exhaust off my aero to a guy in
sweden. FedEx wanted over $400. to ship!! took the same measurements and weights to U.S.P.S. and they quoted me around $145. when i actually mailed the
exhaust, it was only $94.
also, i just bought ramblinman64's T exhaust and he was going to ship UPS to me at $120. i ask him to check the P.O. and it was going to be around $30. may not work for you, but i'd sure considered checking with them. bud |

Thanks Bud. Never thought to check with them. Did you box them or just wrap them good?

i boxed mine, and i'm pretty sure the P.O. will require that. i was over to a friends house one day and he had just bought a sheet rock lift to do the
ceiling in his garage. the box the lift came in was near perfect for the exhaust. i do always cut the boxes down as small as possible, because they do go by
both measurements and weights.
you might also check auto body shops for boxes too. they generally have some pretty big ones. get you a roll of packing tape and start cutting to size and taping. i also took the exhaust apart as much as possible. like i said, the smaller the box the cheaper it will be. good luck, bud |

Dunno...I paid $52...could have been too much. I know the box weight about 70 pounds or so...

USPS has a weight limit so that is something to consider.
I've shipped 2 full T exhausts. One in an old V&H T exhaust box, and the other in a heavy-duty double walled box I picked up behind a furniture store. I took the exhaust apart, taped all the holes up, wrapped each piece thoroughly with foam type Pergo flooring under padding, then placed the pieces in the box one by one while inserting foam pieces and blocks from the same furniture store. You must separate each piece from the other to prevent them from clanging together and causing damage. The box will be heavy and dock workers tend to toss it around a lot while loading the truck. Good luck and happy box hunting. The last exhaust cost me $36 or so by UPS. It's cheaper to/from a business address. I don't think USPS will accept anything more than 50 lbs. or 48" in length. You'll need to check with them on that. You can do it online. Stan

I ended up shipping USPS. I just shipped the mufflers and it cost me $26 and some change for a 26lb box with insurance. Thanks for the info Bud! It was about
$15 cheaper than UPS.
