HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 88 06/16/08 2:33 AM	Tags : None Well we are planing on a little road trip on the 4th of july weekend leave Richmond Ky Sat 5th morning and heading down to the Dragon (Deals Gap) havent decided if I want to run highway (I 75) or old roads (US25) about 210 miles (4hr) by I 75 and 230 miles by US 25(6hr) stay in Tn night of 5th and 6th ride the Dragon ( just so we can say we did ) at 35 mph both ways on 6th find something else to do ( enjoy the outing ) then head home Mon 7th well this is the plan anyway

While you are in the neighborhood of Dragon, I would recommend you ride the Foothills Parkway on the way to the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway after riding the Dragon. The Foothills Parkway has about 11 scenic overlooks of the west side of Great Smoky Mountain National Park and its southern end runs right into US 129 just about 5 miles northwest of where the 318 turns comprising Tail of the Dragon start. Cherohala Skyway goes up over 5000 feet and is usually very cool, i.e. a good place to ride on a hot day. It also has stunning views. I usually ride the Foothills Parkway, the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway in a 225 mile loop starting and ending in Knoxville. If you started in Maryville the loop would be about 40 miles shorter. To get to the Foothills Parkway follow US 321 east/north from Maryville. HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 88 06/16/08 12:42 PM	thanks fred I will look at it on the maps I have to take it easy as not sure how well the wife will hold up I think I might try the foothills parkway for sure but the Cherohala will most likely not be done this trip we done a poker run earlyer this month about 90 miles 4 hours she was fine the first couple hours or so but then her backside started to hurt so if I run I 75 most of the way down into tenn I can get father before we would have to stop and take a break but a 225 mile loop on the second day would do her in I'm afraid we are not goin to rush, I plan to give her plenty of time so it's as enjoyable for her as me, I dont want her hurting as she would not be happy I need to do something with her seat but we cant afford to do much ( like a new/used mustang or cobra ) so we have a small pillow she uses Last Edited By: TechJD 06/16/08 12:45 PM.
