Some 2008 Hoot Pictures | #62 | ||
|
There was a very special guest as this year's Honda Hoot.
Granny brought plenty of liquid refreshment.
The Hoot Party at Volunteer Landing was greatly enjoyed. Here's a picture of Stony & wife Kathy among some of their Hoot Volunteer friends.
Tony & riding buddy Shawn (at far left) are loosing big time at the Casino tent, but they still have big smiles on their faces.
The fireworks barge is between the yacht and the extremely long/large hospital up on the bank.
A view of US 441 as it crosses the Tennesse River, as seen from Volunteer Landing, Knoxville.
Chilhowee Park looked peaceful this year. I found some good deals on merchandise. More on that later.

Thank you for the pictures of Knoxville Fred. I especially enjoyed the photo of the pond at Chilhowee Park. Many a time I was parked at this pond with one of
my cars during the many years I attended the Street Rods National South in Early May. Have you ever been to the zoo on the other side of the park?

Ya know why we still had smiles at the blackjack table? They just gave us a pile of chips to start!!
win or lose it is more fun when it's not your money!
Fred, how was your ride home? we stayed dry till the last 10 miles, then the heavens opened up.

Tony,
Sounds like you are fairly lucky, just 10 miles of rain. I was very lucky, no rain, just some fog going over the mountains. I rode home a different route. Got to ride across the fairly large Douglas Lake about 25 miles east of Knoxville (it was beautiful just after sunrise). The wispy fog on the mountains surrounding Hot Springs, NC was also a sight to behold. Rode on a pretty stretch along the French Broad River called the French Broad Overlook Byway just north of Asheville, NC. Surprising was to see Chimney Rock almost deserted about 9:30 on a Sunday morning. I have only ever seen that town jammed with tourists. Made it home before noon, just in time to spend some time with my wife before she started working at 1 pm. What a great trip! Think I will do it again next year.

The Ride to the Hoot | #67 | ||
|
Stopped by Gaffney, SC for a large peach, but as the sign says they are protective of their large peach.
Stopped again near Brevard, NC. Wanted a shot of the mountains from the foothills.
The next five pictures are all from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Trying to avoid Gatlinburg, Pidgeon Forge and Seviereville I took Little River Road through Great Smoky Mountain Park to Townsend, TN. This picture of the Little River is part way between Gatlinburg and Townsend.
This last shot is of US 321 between Townsend and Maryville. JD it is fairly close to the entrance to the Foothills Parkway.

Some how the camera was locked in the T every time I wanted it during this trip; we continuously forgot it. However both Killboy.com and US129photos.com got a
bunch of us. I don't even know which to order there are so many.
http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/viewalbum.aspx?a=521918 Fred, I remember riding past the sign for the French Broad Overlook Byway and wondering how it was. Thanks for posting the pictures I wish I got. Tony

Tony,
I can see what you mean. I would have trouble picking just one. How did you get them to take all those pictures? Last year I leaned over big time when I passed the camera man and not one picture. Maybe he was so stunned that Nighthawk did not fall over he forgot to push the shutter.

Fred,
Every other year I just got one picture, maybe this is there new marketing strategy, if I bought all of them it would be $120.

I would just like one high resolution picture of me at full lean in a corner. You must be more photogenic than me.

NC tourer mentioned Zee Foto, a deals gap photographer I had not yet heard of. They had 6 more pictures of us on the dragon. That's another $33, how to
pick?
http://www.photoreflect.com/PR3/ViewAlbum.aspx?a=521918 I kind of like the shots of us motoring off into the distance, leaning opposite directions. Maybe you are going by so fast they are missing you?

Thanks for the pics, Fred. I'll try and post some up later this week if I can.
Last summer we stayed in Townsend after the Hoot. The Little River Road was one of our favorites. Of course so was the Cherohala Skyway, The Hellbender, The Foothills Parkway, Deal's Gap.....

After arriving at my hotel in Knoxville and getting settled into my room, I popped my head out to take a look around, and low and behold right
next to my Nighthawk was one of the most beautifully appointed Shadows I have ever seen. It is owned by a lady from Norfolk, VA named Carol. Before finding
this Aero on Craig's List she had put 45,000 miles on a 750cc Shadow mostly commuting to work in Virginia Beach. I do not know how many miles she has on
her Aero, but she rode over 500 miles two-up (her boyfriend on the back) to get to the Hoot this year.
Besides the Roadhouse exhausts, the burghandy & black paint, the studded seat & saddlebags, the white wall tires, in person the chrome fender shields front and rear really set the bike's looks off. Just beautiful, doncha agree?
I saw another Shadow I liked in the parking garage as I was walking to attend the Closing Ceremonies in the Civic Center.

I've always had a soft spot for the Aero. Another great bike Honda threw away.
