VTX Tourer - with hard bags |
Lead | ||
|
I stopped into the local Honda shop today to pick up some muffler donuts (not ones you can eat BTW). They had a VTX tourer on the showroom floor. It is a
medium-light blue with hard bags, shield, and floorboards. But rather than putting dual pipes on, it has both pipes on the right side. Therefore they had to
make the hard bags shallower to leave room for the pipes. If it had dual pipes like the T and full depth hard bags, it wouldn't be a bad bike, although
I'm not crazy about that particular shade of blue. The inside of the bags comes lined with a gray carpet -like stuff which looks nice. The bags were
seamless without the seam up the middle like on our Ts. But FIX THE PIPES. It just doesn't look like any sort of a serious touring machine with the
squatty bags.

Rich - We sort of talked about it here: http://hondashadowacetourer.yuku.com/topic/8905
I haven't seen one yet, but I thought the small bags looked funny in the picture in the magazine. Scott "Silence is golden, duct tape is silver" |

I saw the VTX tourer at the international bike show. All I could say is hardbags and a windshield do not make a Tourer. I have ridden a friends 1300 and
didn't like it, maybe because she had it set up a lower seat, small windshield and Corbin Beetlebags.
I'd like to ride the Star 1300. Loved the 1100 V-Star, this new one looks good. Again, the saddlebags look like they're good enough for around town but not long range touring. BTW, what did bikers complain about when nobody had a large windshield or saddlebags and they just strapped stuff onto their bike? |

They complained about the bugs in their teeth.

I finally got around to reading the review of the "middle weight" cruiser tourers in Rider magazine. They seemed to the think the bags were of usable
size. I would disagree myself.
It appeared that all the manufacturers did the same thing... both pipes on one side, forcing the smaller bags. Seems a waste to me.

It seems that the only true cruizer you can get anymore is the HD. There are a few on the market with the hard bags and cross over pipe but I haven't found
one that satisfies me. The Rocket III tourer is nice but that HUGE radiator seems to detract from the overall looks and practicality. The Valk had the same
size engine but the radiator was half the size of the Rocket, even the Wings radiator isn't that big.

guitstik wrote: Joel, you know the Valk is packing a 1500-6 (same as a 'wing) to the Rocket's 2300-3. Not the same size engine. But you are correct the radiator
on the Rocket is ostentatious.

With gas as high as it is, I wonder how may Rockets they are selling now. Even the 1800 would make want to back off on the trottle.
The 1500 Valk is a nice bike, but I talked to someone who had one but will not ride it in Florida because the heat coming off the cylinders is too much for him. |

I was talking about new bike offerings. I am still on my quest for a T and will probably keep my ACE till they pry it out from under me. One of the guys at
work just bought a Yamaha Venture and it looked good to me. Haven't ridden it or heard it but it looked like comfortable bike.

I've still gotta pinch myself every so often and be thankful that I've got a set of wheels (and a nice set, at that!).

Those are very nice looking and this one sounded great too. Enjoy

Gotta get a new camera. My wife lost it at a birthday party. As soon as I have one you can be sure that I will post lots and lots of pics. It's killing me
that I can't share it with you guys/gals
