The petcock on my 2000 T is leaking . Its leaking between the rivited on plate behind the lever and the aluminum housing. Anybody ever try to fix this or
happen to have a good one to sell? Thanks

For my old Kawasaki, A repair kit would have everything needed to replace all the softgoods. Don't think I've seen a repair kit for a Shadow, but I
haven't looked for one either.

Mine started leaking several years ago on a trip to Devil's Tower, Wyoming. I used a small pair of vice grip pliers and gently squeezed each of the two
pop rivets that hold it together. I kept adjusting and tightening a little at a time until it stopped leaking taking care to do one rivet then the other. It
hasn't leaked since. Hope it works as the petcock is pretty pricey - about $70 then.

I have the leaking petcock problem and gas was also leaking from the connection to the tank. I fixed the petcock to tank connection and tried using vice grips
to stop the petcock leak but it 's not holding. .
I just ordered a new one,hope it gets here this week |

Drill out the rivets, glue it up, and put in some tiny nuts and bolts. No? Or maybe even pop rivets, although nuts and bolts are better I would think.

I just replaced mine and I kept the old one with the intention of doing exactaly what Alan suggested. I'll probably work on it this winter and keep it for a spare. Those rivits that are on the it are the dead end type they don't pass all the way through. If you drill all the way through for bolts make sure you use a good thread sealer that's intended for fuel lines. You could also drill and tap the holes and eliminate using nuts but you'd still need a good sealer. |
