HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 588 08/04/08 4:18 PM	Tags : None Hi All, I've moved from Upstate NY from 60 to 70 degree weather to the Fantastic State of North Carolina, only one problem. Since we have been here the average temp has been from 94 - 102. When I go riding you want to take long country roads because in town stopping is like getting hit by a blast furnace. I never thought I would ever say it's almost to hot to ride??? Can't wait till September, maybe the temp will drop a little and then the riding fun will begin. I only had one ride with Fred so far and that day was not as bad. Don't get me wrong, the weather is Great and we are having a ball, can't wait to see the snow up North and not have to shovel it. I joinned the Southern Cruisers and we have met many nice people and have been on a few rides. They are all great riders and safety is the main concern which is great. Ride Safe all and enjoy. Posts: 1069 08/04/08 4:50 PM	mark, know what you mean. i just got the tire on the 'wing i bought, changed all the fluids, and now it's just too hot to get out. only time i've left the house yesterday and today was in the early morning. suppose to be a heat index of 110 here today. haven't heard the news yet, but think it's suppose to break a little tomorrow. lillians son has a house right across from her house and saturday he had guys topping three huge trees he has in the back...man, wouldn't have wanted that job, especially in this weather! stay cool, bud

Is that a good thing or should I go the 50/50 I see all over down here? mark, good question, and not sure i have the right answer. when i was into old cars, overheating always seemed to be a problem. at that time, the guys i talked to always recommended the 50/50 mix. i also tried many additives, but all that most of the additives did was lower the boiling point, really didn't do anything to make them run cooler. if it was me, i'd probably go with the 50/50. jmo good luck, bud

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3889 08/04/08 9:32 PM	If the yearly average is above 70F, then 10w40 oil and 50/50 coolant. The high heat has just started in the south the last 3-4 years. It comes in cycles , it seems.....10 years of above avg. temps followed by 10 years of below. We used to see snow and ice accumulations about once or twice every 3-4 years. Lately we have only gotten a couple of dusting's a season. We are just about in the middle of the above avg. heat cycle. It was 98F and a heat index of 105 today. I not only rode to work 50 miles round trip, I also rode to bike night tonight. A Cool Vest really makes the heat bearable. Worked in a nasty hot old chemical plant as millwright/pipefitter............. rode year round. But then again I did the "Texas Hotter'n'Hell" 100 miles bicycle ride too. Must be genetic.

Posts: 6136 08/05/08 11:47 AM	Mark, There a reason the song goes "Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning." The second line really should be "Because it is horribly hot after noon and in the evenings." My suggestion is to go riding not too long after dawn. Between 6 am and 9 am the temperature is in the high 60's through the 70's. I usually ride my bicycle or roller blade, and also walk the dog in a large park between those hours every Sat. and Sun. Riding to work during the summer mornings is pure joy for me. Coming home in the summer heat is not near as pleasant, but my blood must be thinned out after 2-1/2 years here because I still enjoy riding then too. See you this evening. Fred

I ride every day to work and it's not just a commute, I do it 'cause I enjoy riding. The heat hasn't been that bad 110-114 heat index is all. Try workin on a giant concrete parking lot with big trucks running and the sun beating down on you all day, thats hot. Joel
