HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 482 07/30/08 5:43 PM Road Captain	Tags : None Got new tires mounted yesterday. I went with a set of AVON Venoms: 180/70-16 on the rear and 130/70-18 on the front I'm comparing with factory spec dunlops I was riding with about 18K on the front and 10K on the rear. But WOW what a difference in ride. This was a great switch so far. Now I need to take my GPS and see how it affected the speedo.

HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 468 07/31/08 12:05 PM	They look like tires for a muscle bike, don't they, Rich? I love the ride of the Venom R on my T. Venoms do sing a little, but that's okay by me. I usually have the stereo so loud that I can't here the tires anyway. I found that they really do make the curves more fun. They just feel 'quicker' getting you into the lean. Just don't push them too hard at first. I'm afraid every tire needs to be scuffed up a little to handle its best. HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 482 08/01/08 8:28 AM Road Captain	As mentioned. These tires "SING". I had heard that before I bought them. As soon as I rode with them I found out how true this is. But this is a very minor annoyance to get the improved handling. This weekend I'll strap on my GPS, somehow, and check the speedo difference.

I never checked it with the factory spec tire. But several persons said it usually shows a few mph faster than actual already. Posts: 6282 08/03/08 5:30 AM	Rich, With the stock tire, when my T's speedometer reads 60 mph, my GPS reads 55 mph. http://hondashadowacetourer.yuku.com/topic/8825 Some speedometers are off more than others. Theoretically, with the stock tire your GPS should be reading 57.6 mph when your T's speedometer is on 60 mph. That would put your speedometer error at 4.1% whereas mine is closer to 9% at 60 mph. There should be a set screw in the speedo somewhere to fine tune the speedometer. But I doubt if they would want consumers to have easy access to something like that. - Rich

Being an artist, it's so much easier for me to look at a graph and understand it than to just have percentages go in one ear and out the other (I am not exactly a math whiz). Kudos. HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 120 08/03/08 5:02 PM	according to my calculations going to a 130/70-18 tire should add 4% to the error that the bike already has. My bike shows a approx 5% error with the 130/80 tire so I could expect 9% error going to the 130/70 tire That's close enough to just call it 10% witch would be easy to calculate on the run

Posts: 6282 08/03/08 7:54 PM	Rich, For my T's speedometer I suspect that there is both an offset and a percentage error. There is also both error and inaccuracy in my measurements. I think my T's speedometer offset is probably between 2.0 & 2.5 mph. I think the percentage error is between 4.5% & 5.0%. I cannot figure it out for sure because my GPS does not easily yield tenths of mph, just full mph. There is not enough GPS accuracy there, plus it is difficult to hold the T's speed as exactly as I would like. It keeps wanting to go slightly above or below the speed I am focussing on at any given moment. Having said all that I agree with you, it would be nice if there was some kind of accessible adjustment screw, or if they had just made the speedometer accurate in the first place, like manufacturers do with car and H-D speedometers. Posts: 6282 08/05/08 11:37 AM	Rich, Getting too technical can suck the life, or at least the fun out of anything. I had a friend in the '70's who started the career path of making films, but he found it too tedious. Although making films sounds creative, he spent 70% of his time just making sure the sound track lined up with the visionals. I like taking pictures because with today's cameras there is instant feedback and it is not too hard to try a lot of different angles, settings, etc. It is easy to be creative without working too hard at it. Dawn, I am a visual person too. It is easier for me to see rather than to hear. I am horrible with languages and am barely fluent in English and not at all in other languages I have tried like French, Spanish, Italian and Russian. Fred

I tend to be visual as well. It took me too many years to figure that out. Next to visual I'd rather look at a chart, graph, or (if necessary) a spreadsheet/table. But I had a boss who wanted everything written in paragraph descriptions ... he's not my boss any more . I love playing guitar and performing on occasion, but if I were required to do it to make a living, the headaches would likely negate the enjoyment very quickly. I'm glad I uploaded the tire pictures for us visual folks.
