I saw $1.71&9/10 here in SC yesterday on the way home from work. I would take $3 or even $4 per gallon with a healthy economy over these low gas prices.
The latest threat is the Chinese are looking to buy the Big Three auto makers. IMHO, having open markets when key other countries specificially China and
Japan do not and particularly when their currency is continuously set artificially low and mostly a fixed percentage of the US dollar is not working for me.
How about you?

here's a twist....when i bought the T in springfield a few months ago, gas there was 20-30 cents a gallon cheaper than here in kansas city. yesterday when
i delivered the LC to springfield, gas was 10-15 cents higher then here in kansas city.
but, still cheap(or at least that's what we all believe now!). cost me $30. in gas to make the trip(400 mi) and that was pulling the bike half of the distance. i got 50 bucks from the deal for the trip, so at least got my gas paid for. |

Well. I'm in the minority when it comes to gas prices. I am in the business of retrieving oil and gas from the depths of the ocean(s). I prefer that oil
stay at, around, $80 per barrel. When it gets above that, everybody gets all crazy. When it gets much below that, the drilling and operating companies get
tight with thier money.

My company sells large motors to companies that extract oil from bituminous sands (mixtures of sand, clay, water and bitumen, which is a dense and viscous form
of petroleum). Oil of this type is also called oil sands, tar sands or extra heavy oil. Canada and Venezuela have large reserves of this stuff.
As you might expect extracting oil from such a mixture costs more than simply pumping it out of the ground. It was not until the price of oil rose to about $80 that the tar sands extraction process started happening on a large scale. I would think that if oil costs stay low that method of oil extraction will have to be abandoned until the prices rise again. Personally, I find it interesting that public transportation ridership is way up and has not abated with the lower gas prices.

Regular went down to $1.64 last week and stayed there for about 8 hours and then went back up to $1.69. What's up with that?
