You will have no problem fitting the T into an 8' bed and closing the tailgate. By the time you get the forks compressed by the tie-down straps, you will gain another 1" or so of free space behind it for a total of 3". Make sure you tie off the loose ends of the straps. They can and will scuff the finish if allowed to flop freely in the wind. Also, carry along some old cotton socks with the toes cut open. You can slip these over the straps where they may come a little too close for comfort to any part of the bike. As far as loading the bike, try and locate a dealer in the area. Most motorcycle and lawn equipment dealers have a platform ramp for loading a pick up.
