It's been scary out there for a long time, Bud. I wonder if anyone doing this study will bother to talk to people who actually ride and have ridden for a long time. Any of us can tell them exactly why there are so many crashes....... and it ain't all the cagers fault. How about squids who ride in my blind spot? Or tailgating....... 700 pounds of bike and rider tailgating a Dodge mini-van in heavy traffic at 40 mph? Ditto speeding up to beat the amber light.....?? Maybe the cager made a left turn in front of you because he couldn't figure out that you were doing twice the speed limit. Granted inattentive cagers are killers, but I expect that from them. What I continue to be surprised at are riders who drive with the same bad habits as the cagers, but without the protection of two tons of steel. Manufacturers who give us a steady supply of track bikes for the street. Ridden a 600cc bike with very!! low bars lately? Hunched down so tight a rider can't turn the head far enough to shoulder check. A full lock figure eight at slow speed causes the bike to fall in suddenly, and on and on.......... Street survival starts with ME...... If I ride with my head so far up my ass I need a picture window in my stomach I'm a good candidate to be a hundred foot red streak on the road. Nuf sed bout that!!! Don't get me started.
