If you like to do your own work, then you can justify buying one. Even if you don't, then a trip to the shop will cost you more than half the price of the tool. You have to be careful with the mercury type gauges because you can accidentally suck the mercury into your engine if you blip the throttle too much during the test. There's a vacuum port on each front carburetor boot. You remove the screw on the side of each boot and replace it with the correct hose fittings that come with the tool. If you have a manual, it will have the correct procedure for this.
