My wife just came up, looked at what was on the screen, and asked me what lane splitting was. When I explained it to her she became very agitated. "Why should motorcyclists not have to wait in a traffic jam like the rest of the licensed drivers? What makes them special?", she asked. She got P.O.ed.

I've heard of lane splitting, but I don't know the particulars. What brought about the law? What is the state's reason (benefit) for adapting it? Has it been incorporated into the state's drivers' licensing manual? How was it promulgated to the millions of California non-motorcyclists and millions more tourists? Maybe I'm just getting old, but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. How do you 1) trust 16-90 year old drivers; to 2) drive in a manner that supports lane splitting?, and 3) trust 16-90 year old drivers???? Law or not, the only way I'm ever going to attempt it is when I know I'm close to the end of my terminal disease. I repeat, this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. That's my :2p

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow.What A Ride!!!
