I tried firming up my plans a little more last night. From my town to Elkins is just under 600 miles. In my younger days, that was nice ride. Theses days I think that is bit more than I wanted to do in one shot. I used mapquest to see what it said about route and distance. Not the route I would choose, but close. I decided that I should probably just do half and stay overnight somewhere. Halfway is right between Allentown and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Is anyone familiar this area? The reviews I see for all the hotels near the interstate in both towns say things like, "Stay away", "Rats", "Roaches", "Addicts and Hookers". It really is amazing how many bad reviews I read. The hotels along the interstate between those towns say things like. "Run down" and "Bed bugs". I was actually laughing out loud at some of them. You would think that this area would be a pretty nice area with plenty of good hotels because it is a fairly popular tourist area with Hershey and the Amish country being just south of there. Anyway, I checked a little farther down the line ( I-81) and found some very nice reviews. I've booked a night in a little town called Chambersburg. It makes the ride my first day 366 miles, but then day two I only have 214 miles to Elkins.

I've told Alain this, but I haven't mentioned it in here yet; when I leave Elkins, I'm not headed back to Connecticut. I'm going to Illinois to spend some time with my father. Over 2200 miles covering eight states. Starting to sound like one of Fred's trips, huh?
