How about a ride to the Gauley River Bridge, it's the biggest of it's type in the world, so they say!
Is this the bridge you were thinking of? It is near Fayetteville as opposed to Gauley Bridge which just has a small railroad bridge. Actually Gauley Bridge used to have a 350 foot long bridge over New River until the Confederates burned it trying to stem the advances of the Union soldiers in 1861.

Here's the new New River bridge as seen from the old New River bridge and other viewpoints.
