Either trying to beat the rain or actually riding in the rain kept me from taking many pictures on my 382 mile ride from Ocean City, NJ to Elkins. WV today. I survived an intense thunderstorm in Maryland northwest of Baltimore and eventually rode west to rain-free territory after traversing a half dozen mountain ridges in West Virginia. Then I felt calm enough to stop and take a few pictures.

During the thunderstorm I was stopping every 3-4 miles to wipe off my glasses and faceshield so I could see. There were four times I was riding Maryland's Byways through standing water 6 inches deep. I was grateful that after 20 miles I was out from under than gigantic thunderhead. Whew, that was some tough going!

Have you ever noticed how huge the new generation of wind generators are? They are so big that they are startling when they seem to spring up by the side of the road looming menacingly above the trees making their whirring and buzzing noises as they do along US 219 north of Elkins, WV. Here are a couple of pictures of them. Notice how small my motorcycle looks at the base of one of these monsters (second picture).

Thirteen riders rode into Elkins for the T Rally so far this year. Before our 2+ hour dinner we had a little get together in the parking lot of the Elkins Super 8 motel.

Tomorrow breakfast is at 8 am, then we ride the hilly, twisted roads of West Virginia. image
