After packing the bike at 3:30 am (before the heavy rain arrived) and leaving at 6:30 am I made it home at 4:45 pm. For the first 185 miles the roads were very wet even when it was not raining. My Avon Storm tires slipped a few times. The next 165 miles the threat of rain kept me from doing more than gassing up when I briefly stopped. The last 100 miles were free of the possibility of rain, but it was hot and after 9+ hours in the saddle I was glad to get home and start recovering from the last 8 days. In all likihood I will still be recovering at work tomorrow, Because of the rain and threat of rain I did not stop much to take pictures, but for all you Pearl Buck fans I stopped by her place on US 219 and could not figure out which house was the one where she was born. One currently holds the museum and the other looks like a place she might have grown up. Anybody know from the pictures below? After the sun came out I also had to stop and take a couple of roadside shots (from US 219 in WV). There were plenty of beautiful scenes to be captured from the Blue Ridge Parkway, but the early morning rain slowed me so much that I did not want to stop until I got home so I could arrive early enough to rest up before work tomorrow. I would have taken that stretch of SR 16 from Tazewell to Marion, VA which goes up and over 3 separate mountains, but when I stopped at a convenience store an emergency broadcast stated Tazewell had a flood warning since 3" of rain were expected to fall there today. I did find another excellent curvy road. Around Boone, NC a detour for the Blue Ridge Parkway had been set-up, so I took US 221 from Boone to Linville Falls. That roads is seriously kinked and if it would not have been for Sunday afternoon traffic I would have had a blast on it. Like US 50 in WV, US 221 in NC needs to be ridden early on a weekend morning. Thanks to all of you who made the 7th T Rally such fun. I really enjoyed all of it and am looking forward to the 8th Annual T Rally in Beckley, WV where we will stay in a hotel with a pool and hot tub, have several good restaurants within walking distance, be surrounded by excellent roads to ride and also surrounded by fun, interesting places to see. I hope you all can make that one. Only 361 days to go... Fred
