ken,
i'm going to throw my two cents worth of advice in here. as most of you know, i've had a number of motorcycles, and every time i get a different one, i join a forum for that make/style of bike. most all bikes have some unusual "glitch" that has to be repaired or replaced, or a solution of some kind to make it operative. the nomad had plastic oil pump gears(the one i have now went at 64k and a new engine was installed), the 1500 classic had a bearing problem in the shaft drive, the lc 1500 intruder had a charging problem and a rear brake problem, the older honda 'wings had a charging problem, the early 1500 drifters had a small problem with the fuel injection, guess what i'm trying to say is...if it's mechanical, there's a chance something could go wrong, whatever the make. i just bid on another T and told a guy they were, again, my opinion, the best bang for the buck and super reliable!
what have i found from all this experience? imo, the honda 1100 is one of the most reliable, trustworthy, engines out there today! if i was the type to buy a bike and keep it (well, we all know that won't happen) it would be the honda T!
good luck with whatever you decide,
bud
