Nick,

A long ride, up to two weeks sounds like a lot of fun. I've taken many long rides but most were under a week. I can tell you that:

- A good seat/saddle is the most important. I took my new Goldwing from Cleveland, OH to Atlanta, GA with a stock seat. Made it to Knoxville the first day and my butt was sore. Made a make shift seat pad out of a high density camping pad (under $20 from Walmart) and finished the trip. The following trip to Americade I bought a good seat and smiled for the next 36,000 miles.

- A good suspension is next on my list. Progressive make some nice springs and shocks. In my opinion, they are well worth the money.

- Extra gas. Unless you will be traveling in the western US, you should be within 50-100 miles of a service station at all times. In the western states you might need enough fuel to cover 200 miles which means you might want to strap a two or 2.5 gallon tank to the back of your bike.

- Passenger floor boards... consider Kury mini wings.

All in all, consider the trip and adventure. The way I look at it, I spend way too much time behind a desk and computer screen just to get a few weeks of riding. When I hit the road, I want to be comfortable and enjoy myself. If it cost a few extra bucks, then so be it.
