X2 on the Kootenay Lake ride.   In 2001, my buddy and I did a two week tour of Southern BC:  Seattle-Nelson-Creston-Revelstoke-Prince George-Kamloops-Vancouver-Seattle.  All on an old '79 Yamaha XS650 twin (my friend had an old airhead Beemer).  I used baling wire to secure a plastic milk crate to the rear fender, hung bicycle panniers from the crate, strapped a tent, sleeping bag and collapsible fishing pole to the seat and off we went.

At the time it was all about the twisting glacial lake roads, the long stretches of lonely highway and the trout streams.  Now, just having broken through the age barrier (turned 40), I look back and wonder how the hell I survived all the log trucks screaming down gravel roads, the two weeks of rocky/muddy hard travel, the roadside breakdowns in torrential rains.  All worth it.  Great roads, great scenery, great people we met.

There's a ferry that crosses Upper Arrow Lake that was quite the experience in 50+ mph winds...

Anyway, X2 on the Kootenay!
