Well Skip, I guess I have a couple of things to say on the subject.

I was given a 410/22 over/under for my 12th birthday. I mainly hunted rabbit and quail to help Mom put food on the table. Never shot a high powered rifle or any kind of pistol 'til I went in the Marine Corps. I never qualified anything less than expert while I was in the Corps. I've had a carry permit most of my adult life. Today I have Connecticut Concealed Pistol Permit and a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit that's recognized in 34 states (with limitations and certain circumstances). I never leave the house without some kind of firearm. I'm 57 years old, and outside my duties in the Marine Corps, I've never had to pull one.

I live with two philosophies: 1) I carry a gun because I firmly believe that its always better to have one and never need it than need it and not have one, and 2) My guns are always loaded and ready and never come out of their holsters unless I'm going to use them.

I put no less than 100 rounds a month through every gun I own to 1) keep good reliable ammo on hand, 2) keep me proficient, and 3) keep my guns in working order. I clean them immediately after every time I shoot them. I have a trusted gunsmith inspect them every year. I generally trade them in and get a new one every ten years. My weapon of choice is a .45. in a 1911 configuration (always has been, always will be). I currently own a Kimber CDP II and a Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander. Alessi Holsters are the ONLY holsters as far as I am concerned..

I'm an NRA card-carrying member. I read gun magazines and go to gun shows. After all these years, I still don't consider myself an expert.
