I have an LCP. Great gun. If you get it and choose to carry it, shoot it a lot before you start. It takes a lot of practice to be able to handle it. When I carry mine I have it loaded with Cor-Bon ammunition.
I prefer to carry as large a caliber as possible. You can pick up a third generation Taurus PT145 Millennium Pro in 45ACP for under $400. It is very dependable and easy to shoot (for a compact 45ACP). It is easier to handle than the LCP with a heavy load.
Personally, I was never comfortable carrying a 1911 "cocked and locked" in a concealed context. That condition is for an out in the open holster. (In my humble opinion).
Please don't ever get in the mind set of using your handgun as a deterrent. That will get you killed. If you have the idea in your mind of pulling a gun to scare someone off, your thinking needs to be rebooted. The intention of pulling the gun out is to pull the trigger. No other purpose. And that is not just my humble opinion.
