Finally got to ride |
Lead | ||
|
The weather broke here on Long Island the last couple of days and I've finally put some mileage on the T.I love this bike!I never had a cruiser
before, always rode standards,so I have a little bit of learning process going on.Two things that stand out to me is I need more leg room and some more seat
height,I think the Corbin seat is great for touring but a lttle tiresome riding on the Island where you can't go 10' without stopping and
shifting.Sitting that low seems to put some stress on my back constantly lifting my legs to brake and shift.Do you guys think a stock seat would get me the
height I'm looking for? Then I could save the Corbin seat for extended rides. Thanks Rich

The stock seat will give you some extra height over the Corbin and the Mustang seats, but the difference may be minimal. If you know a good upholstery shop,
then adding additional foam to your stock seat may offer a little more lift.

Bama, I don't think I'll need much more than an inch or so,I've played around using some high density foam on top of the Corbin and it seems to me
that just an inch or so helped.I found out on my last bike that moving the pegs back an 1 1/2" made a huge difference in my comfort level.I like your
suggestion of adding foam to the stock seat, now I just need to find one.Well off to the wanted section I go. Thanks ,Rich

Rich, I just remembered that I once had a Velour covered Gel Pad that sit on top of the seat, and it added about 3/4 to 1" of height to the seat. Might be
something else to look at because it also adds comfort. I used to put it in the freezer at work during the 90F temps, and then in the microwave during winter.
It will hold the temp for an hour or so. The only draw back was having to take it off and lock it in the saddle bag to help keep the thieves honest.
This is the one that I had; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaym...ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Stan |

Bama,Looks like that may work although it doesn't say how thick it is,by the looks I would guess about an inch. You know I was thinking , maybe I'm just
a big wussy and I have some muscle soreness from an unfamiliar riding position. So I'll just have to ride more and see if I start to feel more
comfortable.Thanks, Rich

Bama, I was searching around and saw a post about the MC enterprises engine guard on an old T of yours.I have noticed that it seems to be inside of the
running boards as compared to the large cobra bar which sits smack dab in the middle limiting leg room.Do you have some better pics of the bars or tell me if
I'm correct.I think the cobra bars with highway pegs spreads my legs too far apart for my comfort.Plus I fell like I'm getting an exam,if you know what
I mean
. Is this the engine guard MC #1000-10?
Thanks, Rich

jense wrote:Neither guard interfered with the floor boards. The MC part number is correct. I tried both Cobra and MC's guards and the MC's hit the windshield bottom tails so much that it was a little un-nerving while maneuvering tight turns in parking lots. The Cobra does not have as much of the problem with this as the MC's because they are not tilted forward at the top like the MC's are. As for the leg spread on highway bars goes, I did not have the engine guard mounted pegs. I had instead a set of the engine mount type highway pegs that bolted to the front engine mount bolt. This put them closer in and further forward than the engine guard mounted pegs. Your toes would protrude through the engine guard hoop a little, but it actually was more comfortable this way. ith my 5'7 height and 29" inseam, they were perfect for me. Here is a head-on shot of the Cobra guard and engine mount pegs; ![]()
Close up shot.This photo is with the MC guard that I 1st tried. You can see that the MC guard interfered with the highway pegs, also;

bama,
I've got to look my bike over more closely, I think I have the exact same highway pegs as in the picture, and I also want to get a crash guard. So I need to look over how/where they are mounted. I find the pegs too far forward, and I can only catch my toes onto them, doesn't feel comfortable for me, and I'm thinking or removing them, but that will be a later issue. My inseam is 32" Gordon |

Bama, Thanks for the great discrription and photos,I'm leaning towards the MC bars to give me some extra leg room.I'm 6'2" and I feel a little
cramped with the cobra bars.I've thought of moving the highway pegs to the inside of the bars but my size 14 boots are a little tight and I'm afraid my
feet would get tangled up if I had to make some quick moves. Thanks again, Rich
Gordon,I might be having a used Cobra bar up for sale soon if you interested. The only marks on them are from where the highway pegs were mounted. There are pics in my profile. |

jense,
I looked over the pics, and they seem fine, I would most likely be interested in it. The highway pegs, would you be keeping them for yourself, I don't know if the ones I have would be in the way for their mounting. Gordon |

Whoa, jense! I took a look at your bike images and noticed that you have the Cobra light bar. My memory is not what it used to be, but seems like I remember
one other member having problem with the signals hitting the engine guard and breaking it off. I know that the bottom tabs of the factory shield will hit the
top of the engine guard. Cutting the tabs off even with the top of the signal holes is the remedy for that, but looks like those signals are a couple inches
lower than stock when mounted to the light bars. The MC engine guard sits about 4" more forward than the Cobra guards do. Just thought I'd bring this
up because I didn't want you to buy something that you may not can use.

gordonv wrote:Yes, Gordon, those are the ISO grips by Kuryakyn. They come in 2 lengths and 2 diameters. Mine were the longer version which gives you more room to mount a throttle lock w/o getting on top of the rubber inserts. I think they were something like 6.25" long vs. the shorter 6" version, but check with Kuryakyn about that. You will need them for 1" diameter bars. They are all over ebay and can be bought just about anywhere parts are sold for bikes. Second, if you have the same pegs as I did, then I find it hard to believe that you can only rest your toes on them. I have a 29" inseam vs. your 32" inseam and had no problem at all reaching the pegs. In fact, I could rest the back of my heel on top of the pegs for a staright leg position. Stan |

Bama, Nice pick up, I will need to look into this a little further.Comfort will be my deciding factor and if I can't some how get the relief I need then I
might have to swap light bars.I like this bike too much not to try and make it fit me the way I like it.Thanks, Rich
