So do you think a Shadow will pull us two old farts around in the comfort we are accustomed too. There are small hellish good deals on 2006 Shadow 750s, but think they might be tad small, so looking back for older 1100 might be better.

Hi gang, Ken here, been riding since 1966, kinda dating myself, BUT with age and old injuries from past bike accidents flaring up,I find my self dropping the
Big GL 1500 now a lot, wife is scared and doesnt want to ride anymore, I cant afford a $7500.oo trike kit,so will sell the Wing and find a smaller Bike, being
a ex Honda dealer for 20 yrs,Will not ride anything else.

Ken,
Going from a GL1500 to a VT750 might not be a good idea... especially for two-up riding. I went from a GL1800 to a Magna 750 V4. The loss of power did not bother me too much, but the comfort was drastically different. A goldwing, at 900-1000lbs is a smooth riding bike. Scale back to to a 500lb bike and the ride gets a lot stiffer; truck wakes, side winds and road imperfections are felt. A Shadow 1100 (AceT, Aero, Sabre,...) may do the trick. A little more power over a 750 and 150lbs more weight for a smoother ride. I was looking at mid-size cruisers last spring... and really liked the Kaw 900. Kind of looks and feels like a full size cuiser bike, the LT model has a shield and bags, weighs in about 650lbs, belt drive, fuel injected, water cooled... all in all, a really nice ride. Priced at $8,500, it's hard to pass by. The only negative was the laced wheels. For the kind of riding I do, I prefer cast wheels so I can have tubeless tires. After months of searching, I found my bike... a 99 Yamaha Royal Star. Shaft drive, carb'd engine, cast wheels, V4 performance, 1300cc engine. Added about 2k for a new shield, saddlebags and a mustang seat. It's got a little less power than the wing, but still respectable. at 750lbs it rides like a large cruiser. Andy |

Ken,
Welcome to the Forum! I doubt anything will get you around in the comfort you are accustomed to, but hopefully an ACE Tourer will be a good compromise.

A VTX 1300 with Corbin bags, larger seat, and a batwing fairing would be a step in the right direction. Aftermarket parts are more available than the T. I
like this set-up for the VTX;........... http://www.corbin.com/honda/hvtxc-ylnrfair.shtml
And these for bags;........ http://www.corbin.com/honda/vtx1300rchin.shtml Stan |

HI Ken! Unless you've got your heart set on a Tourer, I second Stan's recommendation for a VTX 1300 - I rode my friend's and it is a great bike and
feels much lighter than my Tourer. Aftermarket parts are readily available, too. I love my T and wouldn't think of parting with her at this point, but if I
did, that 1300 would be one of the top alternatives on my list.

Hey Ken, I don't think that you're going to be satisfied with anything after a Wing; just my opinion. Have you considered getting ghost wheels or some
other add-on wheels to help you when the bike is in parking lots? Just a suggestion.

Here's another option;
http://www.tow-pacinc.com/ A couple of guys show up for local bike night that have this kit on their wings. In my opinion, these are the best versions, because the Voyager kits sit so low that there are clearance issues on speed bumps. A Honda Silver Wing looks pretty good with the trike kit on it, also. I had not seen this insta-trike kit before and this is definitely one of the better looking conversions I've seen, especially with the 12inch wheels. The
cost though is practically as much as the T, but of course compared to a full blown trike it is cheaper. I see that for the Tourer there is some exceptional
mounting considerations.

those add a wheel kits are dam near as much money as a Tri-Wing ,and have had a few freinds install those kits and dam near Killed themselves when the wheels
went down on there own at higher speeds. and the Ribbing they got at Bike Meets,,wasnt worth it. TRAINING WHEELS,,HA HA HA.. Those loud mouthed guys had no
idea who much they hurt those peoples feelings, now they dont ride Period and have GIVEN that add a wheel kit away.
we tryed a 750 Shadow last night, NOPE,couldnt even sit on comfortable with us on, so we didnt even move it.it was a hell of deal to,. a 2006 with 450 kms, had pipes, sadlebags, windshield, pasenger backrest, rear rack.guy is going to lose it to finance company, think he sold it this morning. will wait for a 900 cc or bigger. |

Welcome to the forum Big. I believe if you check around and keep your eyes open you could pick up the bolt on style wheels for that trike A LOT cheaper then
that. Father in law sold his "landing gear" setup for like 2200 when he fully triked his wing. As for comfort and such that is something that veries
from person to person but I can say that I will not give up the wing ride for the long trips that we take. However around town I do enjoy hoping on the wifes T
and zipping around.
Good luck on your search and drive safe......

I am about to get my T out and get her back in shape. I won't ride to work anymore. Traffic in the Houston area early morning commute is just to
"competetive" for me!! I just don't enjoy riding in town any more. But, I would like to take some short country rides on her.

danbgt wrote: Good news Dan. After that report about the rough running conditions I wondered where you were going to go next with your T. It'll be good to breathe some new life in her. She's too pretty to be just sitting around in the garage. I have to agree about not wanting to ride around the city. My hometown is considerably smaller than yours and I won't ride to work in this city at all.
