I have a confession to make. I am a ride-aholic. I love to ride. I ride every chance I get. I make up excuses like to go to the store just to get the chance to ride. ( We feed bird's entire loaves of bread that went bad because we accumulated so many with my excuses to ride.) I day dream about riding. I dream about riding. I wanted to get married on Dixie, but Robin wouldn't have it. I hereby admit it publicly....I am a ride-aholic.
A few weeks ago, I was riding Dixie down on the shoreline, and passed a dealership with a large sign in front of it that said, 'Come try out one of best scooters in the world". There were several makes of scooters there. I really don't know why, but I pulled in. It was the chance to ride 'something different'. I tried a couple of Piaggios (Fly 50 and Fly 150), and a coule of Vespas (LX 50 and S 150). They turned out to be exactly what I thought they would be; grossly underpowered for my particular desires, but fun to ride. I liked the Piaggios better.
That got me trying a couple of other scooters; the new Honda SH150i, the Yamaha Vino 125, and the E-Ton Beamer III (150cc). What I learned about theses scooters is that they are a lot better quality thatn the scooters I knew as a kid. If I were to rate these scooters in order of preference, I would choose the Honda Sh150i as the best; however, I really don't think that I would ever pay almost $5,000 for a 150cc scooter. Yes the water-cooled engine and catalytic-converter are nice, and the 16-inch whels give it a ride and handling far superior to the smaller wheeled scooters, but they just don't justify twice the price of the other scooters. Additionally, for $5,000 I can get a good used Tourer! Its the best scooter, but no thanks. The rest, in order of my preference, would be the Piaggio Fly 150, the Yamaha Vino 125, the Vespa s 150, the Piaggio Fly 50, Vespa LX 50, and the E-Ton 150. The E-Ton just wasn't the quality of the other scooters.
I'd like to here other's opinions on scoter experience. Hopefully, this might turn into a long running thread that someone might find helpful to a future purchase.
In the end, someday, I may buy a scooter to just run to the store or post office, but I will never give up my motorcycle. Okay guys, I'm out of the closet on this issue. Make as much fun of me as you want.
