Hi,
Last year I was riding and the bike and ran out of gas while driving....pulled over and put it on reserve. Failed to start after repeated attempts. Finally after calling for help and after almost draining the battery I got it started. Seemed to be just over 120 miles when that happened I forget the exact miles. Then last night I was again riding and had 110 miles on the OD when she dies 3 blocks away from the house. Again I put it on reserve and no start. I tried I waited ten minutes tried waited another ten minutes darn near had no juice left. I got her home (pushing it she never started) and put her on the charger and had to leave for a one day trip. I am wondering what the best procedure is (if indeed I ran her dry on the main side) to go to reserve. I mean maybe I should have left her on for 5 minutes BEFORE attempting to restart after the fuel petcock was moved to reserve to the fuel pump fill the bowls? Anyway next day she started (not willingly at first died then re-started seems fine now).
So does running the machine dry of fuel cause this to happen? I know the float bowls need time to fill from the fuel pump but 20 minutes? Has anyone had this problem is this common on this machine? I only have 3,600 miles on this machine and just had the carbs cleaned and the bike runs great otherwise. I am thinking I am just a bone head again for running out of fuel.
