Feel free to post why, and your second choice of rear tire.
Oh, and thanks.. this may help me decide my next tire. I was going to get another E3. Maybe not?

Mark, I have had about the same performance handling characteristics with the original Dunlop D206, the higher mileage Dunlop D206 Elite, the Metzeler ME880 and the Bridgestone Excedra G702. I have gotten the highest mileage and the lowest cost with the D206 Elite. Now that Dunlop has replace the D206 Elite with the claimed even higher mileage Elite III, I am using the E3 in the hopes that the claims are true. So far the handling is like the rest of the Valk-size tires, which is excellent on both wet and dry pavement. Time will tell if the mileage is higher than any or all of the Valk-size tires.
The only high mileage Valk-size tire I have not tried is the Avon Venom R. IF the E3 pans out I may never try it considering the Venom R is more expensive than the E3. Fred |

I switched to the Dunlop Elite III when the Dunlop Elite was taken off the market.
The tire has great traction on wet and dry roads and looks like I will easily get 20K miles from it. The two main complaints I have are the noise and the speedometer error. The rear E3 makes a significant howl which seems to grow less as the tire wears. The E3 has a slightly smaller diameter, than the Dunlop Elite or the Dunlop OEM, which increases the speedometer error typically causing the reported speed to be higher than the actual speed. This may save a few speeding tickets by keeping us moving slower than we think, but it also registers more miles than we actually ride. I expect to use the E3 again when the need arises. Putz |

Mark,
If you're looking at the Valk/Wing tires, don't look past the Bridgestone G704 rear and G709 front tire. I've used these on my wing for the past two tire changes. Great tractions, softer ride and great wear. I would get about 8k out of my Dunlops but got 10-12k on the stones. Andy |

I've never run anything but the OEMs. After reading different discussions on the forum, I was considering the EIII.

Stony, I think majority on this forum will probably pull for the Elite 3. That was the last tire I put on my previous T. The comments here are right on with what I experienced with it. It had a unique hum, but wasn't overbearing. I really loved how the tire handled and felt. I had a lot of confidence in that tire. I ended up riding these mountain roads in NC in the rain on many occasions 2 up, and felt very secure with it. Moreso than with the OEM I started out with. This is probably what I will go with again.. about 99% sure, but I wanted to put up an updated poll to see thoughts on 2nd choices, and maybe to help provide some updated preferences on tires to other guys thinking about tires/tire changes..

For the T, I run a Valk sized EIII on the rear and stick with the stock Dunlop on the front. I like the way she handles with that setup.
For the Dragon Trike, like I said. BF Goodrich on the rear with a Bridgestone BT45 rear tire on the front. Mounted in reverse rotation. Don't ask. -Dan |

Valk-sized Dunlop D-206 for me. Long-lasting, quiet, plentiful and cheap (on Ebay).
Gotta love it!

After I run it awhile I'll make comment on this pole. Liked the Elite over the Avon for sure.

My last rear was the Valk sized E3 and I got 12k out of it before I was level with the wear bars, and after re reading some old posts from MMR, I decided to
go with his recomendation for the GWing E3. This is a smaller diameter tire than the Valk size so there are some issues.

I hear you Mike. An early warning system is preferred and the feelers will give you that. Interesting development that the lower profile tire gives.

How about some old timey curb feelers as an early warning device that you are about to scrape your boards. Those boards are not cheap either, ya know.

No Fred, I just touched down on a slow turn around, nothing serious. And I know they are expensive, but sometimes I just can't help myself. |

I just put the Valk E3 on a couple weeks ago. I was immediately unhappy with the noise, but it has since quieted or I have learned to ignore it. So far so
good. I always used E2 on my goldwings and figured the E3, with the lower price and higher wear, not to mention, no bridge rock, were the way to go.

I am just starting out on a new Metz 880 (180-70-16) and so far I love it. I still have the OEM up front since it was new last year and still in good shape. I
had Metz on my Shadow 1100 and felt they were far superior to the OEMs. I am not disappointed.
