Skip...thanks for replacing the photos of my pride and joy.
For those of you who don't know, or don't remember I returned to motorcycling after a 35 year hiatus. I really wanted to buy a Tourer which sparked my renewed interest in motorcycling. But after listening to members of the Forum who instructed me to get back into motorcycling with something a little smaller and cheaper (should I dump the bike re-educating myself) I did not know what exactly to buy. Then I saw pictures of Skips VT600 and I feel in love with this style of early Shadow. It was affordable and plentiful. As I constantly monitored the Internet for a 600 or 700, I suddenly saw this VT800 for sale and I was hooked. I initially lost the bike in the ebay bidding, but complusion made me call the owner after the close of the bidding. It turned out the bike was still available and I offered the highest bid price of $2400. The bike was mine. The rest is history. The bike is every bit as clean and shiny as you see in the photos. I bought her with only 9435 miles on the odometer. I've had to replace the front fork seals and I purchased new tires. I just completed the installation of a turn signal relocation kit and I have installed a National Cycle Street Shield II windshield. Looking at these renewed photos, I'm embarassed by the fact that I weigh about 25lbs heavier than I do know. A thinner me is evident in this photo taken of me at the Americade with maniac. alepel |

Whenever I look at your '88 it reminds me so much of my '87 it brings a little tear to my eye.
I miss that bike as much today as I did 5 years ago when I let it go.

Alain,
Those are some great pictures, till that clown decided to plop his butt in your bike. Did you ever find out who it was?? Nice bike. How long till we get to see some shots of the new windscreen?? Ride safe. Putz |

Yeah Putz and a very fat clown at that.
Skip posted pictures of the windshield on my Shadow last night. You just haven't gotten there yet. They are posted on the Tech Talk - Windshield Directs Air Stream Over The Shoulder. alepel |

That's a beautiful bike Alain. The red/silver paint looks really sharp and all that chrome too. $2400 with 9435 miles - Wow, you got a deal on that beauty.

Bob...appreciate the compliments. I already took a test ride on Sunday about 100 miles. I just love the look and the feel of this new add on. I'm taking this Friday off and my brother and I are going to spend the day riding as far south as we can. No specific route planned just yet but it will be in the Finger Lake region where we know there are some nice twisties.
Skip has posted some pictures for me of the windshield on the Tech Talk thread. I think it is under the Wind shield over your shoulder posting. Here is link to one of the photos he posted. alepel |

Nice, very nice. I love this style bike. It reminds me of the '86 VT1100C I owned until spring last year. It has the same look as your VT800. I always got a lot of compliments on it where ever I went and so will you.

Thanks for the belated compliments guys. Always appreciate kind words from forum buddies.
NYMark99....Looking forward to riding with you also. I know we are going to be together at the Americade '06. I am planning on taking more time off this year for Americade than I did last year so we certainly should be able to get some riding time together. I am also facing the prospect that I have to take more vacation time next year, so perhaps you and I can do a weekend in the Adirondacks together. And yes, of course we have the "Romp" in Ohio to look forward to since it is closer to home for us. Alain |
