Back in '99, before mesh jackets were available, I bought a waist length First Gear jacket. It seems to be a very good all-year round jacket. With the zip-in fleece liner it has been very warm. I have ridden down in the teens with it (at least for 10-20 miles at a time). With its 5 large vents I could wear it even in the warmest weather I encounted (in the nineties). The only flaws I find, even after these last 7+ years of use are that it does not have an expandable collar (for cold weather) and it does not have a zipper that attaches to matching riding pants to keep there from being a gap that lets cold air in.
If mesh jackets had been available in the last century I probably would have bought a 3/4's jacket for colder months and mesh jacket for warmer months. For the last few years I have been wearing a First Gear mesh jacket in the warmer months, but still am bothered by cool air rushing up my back in the colder months. Thus my question, does a 3/4's jacket keep that cold air from coming in between the jacket and pants. Thanks for your help.
Fred
