I had gotten it from a friend that bought a Corbin seat w/ backrest. He no longer needed the CW backrest so I bought it considering it may come in handy for my first motorcyle trip next month.
The prolapsed disc in my lower back was causing alot of pain after my last 3 weeks of very long hours at work during our annual outage.56 hours,85 hours and 62 hours with no days off. I was whooped!
So I decided to install the driver backrest even though I really didn't like the idea,my lower back did.
The installation is relatively simple IF you happen to own a 5mm Allen wrench swivel socket...which I don't
My friend and owner of our local shop was glad to do the install for me free of charge. It didn't take ten minutes...with the right tool.
First thing I noticed was the backrest pad and back padding in my Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket were'nt going to work together. It sits me way to forward. So I stuffed the riding jacket in the saddlebag and rode on. Right away I noticed the backrest stood me in a more upright position and sat me a little more forward, even with the adjustment to full-rear.I'm a tall,long-legged fellow and more forward isn't what I need.
As I rode throughout the day back pain was nonexistent.Mind you,my back was hurting BEFORE I got on the motorcyle! So I do attest to the fact it does take alot of stress off the lower back. I'm still not sure if I like it because it doesn't let me stretch out. I feel a little cramped.Remember, I'm 6'5" tall.
The short buddy I got this from said it was more comfortable than the Corbin backrest for him. That makes sense as the CW Backrest is twice as thick and multi-adjustable.
Todays 200-miler consisted of an immediate water break at 8 miles. Then lunch at 70 miles. Gas at 45 miles and then home at 68 miles. Not exactly Ironbutt riding, but a good days ride for as sore and tired as I was to begin with. I definitely know the Driver's Backrest helped me through the day. I just am not yet sure if I want to keep it as a permanent accessory.
Like I said before, would John Wayne have one on his saddle?
