No Rick, the price does not include the amp. The amp is around $35 at the moment and is small enough to fit under the tank or inside one of the bags. It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes. The chrome housings is $30, the speakers is $30, and the clamps are around $20. I may be able to shave some of the costs off if I buy them in bulk, mostly on shipping fees. I am waiting for the speakers and the clamps to arrive. The housings I have already. I should have everything hopefully by the end of next week.

If you already have the clamps then you save that cost. I'll post the pics once I have them assembled and then relay my sources for parts and how they are put together. That way if you want to do this yourself then you can. I just want to make sure it works out like I planned before leading everyone on goose chase.

I just stumbled across this site while looking for a cheaper source for components for my project. If you're looking to buy something ready-made this is about as low cost as I have seen. This is also one of the sources I was concidering for just the amp at $29.99 +s&h. They also have the amplified speakers in black for $114 and chrome for $159.

Well Mike, I'm not selling these. I am however making my own set. With a little luck I will have them finished this weekend.

This was just edited by me because my brain must have been dazed and confused when I wrote the 1st reply. I just finished the project and have sent Skip the pics along with my components cost. I just ordered the 150W amp from Motorcycle Tunes for less than $37 shipped. This is the larger sized amp at 4"x1.5"x5.5" so I'll have to mount it in one of my bags. Probably won't even realize the loss of space at that size.

I bought the housings for $9.99 on sale from Harbour Freight Tools (local store).

I bought the speakers new on ebay for $14.99 + s&h.

The brackets I already had but would opt for the hinged or 3 piece type if I had to buy them again. These will cost you around $6 - $8 each net.

All total for the housings, speakers, and amp, including taxes and s&h, but not including the brackets = $83.

So, take a look at the photos when Skip gets time to post them and tell me what you think of my investment. If you think you want to do this yourself then maybe I can help you.

Hey Rick. Here are my personal costs for the components I used.

The spotlights I bought on sale at the local Harbour Freight store for $9.99 each +tax. The regular price would have been $19.99 each. They run them on sale often for $14.99 each but if you hold out you can get them for less like I did. They even have free shipping under some circumstances if you don't have a store nearby.

The speakers I won on ebay from an electronics supplier. They were buy me now for $19.99 but I won them for the starting price of $14.99 + s&h. They are made by Vidsonix (Vidsonix.com) who specialize in outdoor/spa/marine type speakers and components. The speakers I bought were the same that was used in the space shuttles. Supplier says this was near his costs on them but would concider selling more for this price outright if the volume was great enough. I just looked at my source for speakers and his minimum price has gone up to $16.95 +s&h. If you want to locate your own or go for the 4" size the do a search in ebay for (home-theater-projection). This is who I bought my speakers from on ebay.



The speaker mounting plate I made from scraps of Masonite I had lying around. Since only about a 1/4 of these are exposed to the elements I just painted them 3 coats of semi-gloss black exterior spray paint from Krylon to seal them against moisture. If you or a buddy has a scroll saw this is a piece of cake to make. I used a jig saw and carefully cut them out, but I still had to do some edge smoothing with a sander around the outside edges so to get a good waterproof seal against the lights rubber gasket.

The amp I bought was the 150W from www.motorcycletunes.com and is 4"x1.5"x5.5" in size. They have a smaller 100W amp that is 4"x1.5"x 2.5" but it is higher priced at $39.

My total price including the Spotlights, speakers, and amp totaled $83 shipped and taxed. Clamps not included.

The clamps will cost you around $6 - $8 each + s&h or tax. You can buy these at most MC shops. I srongly suggest you get the hinged or the 3 piece type clamp. These are less likely to scar your handle bars. I also suggest the 1-1/4" size and then use a thin rubber or vinyl sleeve under the clamps to prevent the speakers from vibrating and slipping on the handle bars.

My original plan was to build these and sell them to anyone on here who wanted them for my costs. But, my free time is very limited for now. If that changes in the near future I'll let you know. I might still have time to make a few of the mounting plates for you if you do not have the sources to do them yourself. Or, maybe someone else who has the proper equipment can make a bunch of them for the others to use.
