Rear Seat Fender Bolt - Is it Permanent?

Posts: 7575 07/15/07 8:51 PM	Tags : None I have been wanting to remove the Mustang fender bib on my T and I have a question about the acorn nut that holds down the back end of the fender bib. If I loosen the bolt to take the fender bib off, does the bolt fall out. Meaning does it fall down out of the fender onto the rear wheel? Or is it permantly afixed to the fender. I can find no way short of removing the rear wheel to ensure the bolt doesn't fall out. Skip I know that you have had the rear fender bib on and off a few times, so perhaps you could tell me if that bolt is permanently afixed to the fender. I just don't want the bolt to fall out and not have a way to put things back together. Here is a picture of the fender bib I want to remove. The bolt is on the bib just above the brake light. Can anyone help me with this question? Thanks in advance for your help. alepel

Posts: 7575 07/16/07 6:29 AM	Thanks Skip....that is what I was hoping. Yesterday afternoon I pulled off my seat and removed the Mustang seat cover. As much as I like the studded portion of it, I am not happy with the tassles. During my 1,000 mile trip to Americade I noticed that the tassles were creating a very superficial scratch on the top of my saddle bag lids. It's not real bad but it is going to take a little mild polishing compound to get it out. I don't like it, so I pulled the seat off. It was while I was doing this that I thought about removing the fender bib also. My thinking was that without the studded seat did I still want the studded fender bib. I'm going to leave the bib on for awhile and see how I like the look. I know that Mustang makes a non-studded bib, but I feel that the no bib look is acceptable also. After I pulled off the drivers seat I also pulled out the air cleaner. However with only 5K miles on the bike it looked really clean. I did a little cleaning while the seat was removed and got a good look around under the seat to orientate myself to a lot of things I've been reading about here on the forum. I think that next weekend I might pull the saddle bags off for some cleaning and just to get a look see what's going on behind them. I'm finding tinkering with this bike almost as much fun as riding. Scott....admittedly I thought about cutting the fringe off when I first saw what was happpening to my saddle bag lids, but then I dropped the idea. I thought that because the fringe was sewn in half way up the seat it would look bad to cut off the fringe and leave little nubs on the seam. When I pulled the seat cover off I did not look carefully at the fringe to see if I could cut them off and not have little nubs showing. I'll do that tonight when I get home. A thought just occured to me. At my cottage at the lake I found a small Mom and Pop leather shop that makes and sell a lot of leather products for bikers. It just occured to me that I could take my seat cover to them and have them remove the fringe and sew the seat back up. Poof problem may be solved right there.
