Elvira needs a new battery.
Last time, I just went to the Honda shop and bought an OEM.
What's available these days as an alternative?
Any suggestions? Recommendations?

I know this has been hashed and re-hashed numerous times, but I'm too lazy re-read all the posts.

Auto Zone sells 'em cheap. Like $50 and you're back in the wind.

I got mine at NAPA for about $50 too, only had it a few months though. Wal-mart now carries one that fits too at the $50 mark too. no experrance on that one.

I went with Interstate.
You may want to go with a maintenance free since you have 3 bikes to deal with.

Man!!
I just tried to buy an Interstate battery for the T. They wanted 85 bucks + tax and 3% charge for using a credit card!! Screw that. I can buy OEM cheaper! Think I'll try one of them maintenance free jobs. -Dan PERSPECTIVE

Wow! I paid less than $60 out the door in November. But I picked it up at an Interstate Battery Service Center in Houston on OST(?).
Did the price of lead go up that much??

This was at an Interstate "all battery center" on 1960.
What really pissed me was, I had down loaded a 20% discount coupon off their very own website and the guy told me that the coupon is not good for any starting battery. Only service batteries. Like phone, dry cell and the like. Coupon doesn't say a word about that!! It's a "bait-and-switch" ploy. And there is not much that pisses me worse than that. And I'm sure the guy at the battery store is still trying to clean his ears out!!! -Dan PERSPECTIVE

I think it's time to get the Better Business Bureau involved. Maybe they can lay the smackdown on these clowns.

Dan, I've been looking at these GEL batteries lately; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250127385805&rd=1
and think I'll go with this one on my next try. I talked to the seller and it does not have the T bottom, but still produces the maximum cranking amps as the T shaped version. Just think, with no T at the bottom, I could almost mount the electronic cruise control servo unit under there in it's place. I've talked to several people who have these and they swear by them. Not one of them is dissatisfied with the battery. Stan

I bought one of those 39 dollar sealed batteries off eBay yesterday. I decided to go cheap and just see how it works out.
I'll let y'all know how it goes once I get it. -Dan PERSPECTIVE

stan,
I was looking for a gel battery to fit the T. thanks for the link. I was thinking of trying one too.
I thought about reclaiming that space when i did my cruise install and IIRC it was just a little to short vertically to get the servo in there. at least I thought it would be crushed by the swing arm. Tony |

Got the 39 dollar sealed battery from eBay yesterday. Put it on last night. Fired right up!! Time will tell.
I rode Elvira about a 25 yards. My wrist didn't behave well at all!! It's going to take a while to rehab. -Dan PERSPECTIVE

Dan....glad to hear that the battery worked out well.
On another note I can still remember hearing Lou chiding fellow forum members for trying to do too much too soon after an injury. I believe that if he were still here he would be telling you to take er slow. alepel |
