Since I have decided to rebuild the Red Dragon myself, I have started to look for the parts that I know for sure are going to have to be replaced. Or, repaired if I can't find them.
I don't have the trike back, yet, but from the pictures I have, I know for sure that the frame is twisted at the steering stem.
I checked with Bike Bandit about a new frame. $1600 to $1900. (Ouch!)
I checked with Ron Ayers. Not as bad. $1093. But, may not have one in stock. May take a while.
I checked with all the online-linked salvage yards. Found one in NH for $850. From a wrecked 1999. Not sure if it's a Valk standard or Interstate. They said it don't make any difference. I beg to differ.
I ran across Pinwall Cycle Parts. They are in Ohio and sell almost exclusively on eBay. They had a 2001 Valky I/S that they were about to part out. It had been hit in the right rear. It wasn't messed up that bad, but they don't fix bikes up and sell them. They just part them out. They had a video of the bike being ridden down the road. Except for the damaged bags and stuff, it ran pertectly fine.
Anyway. I started watching eBay and it started to show up, in pieces.
The frame finally showed up. No reserve auction with a beginning bid of $9.95. I bid on it. I won it.
Cost of 2001 Valkyrie Interstate frame from Pinwall. $31.00. (No. The decimal is in the right place. 31 bucks!!)
Of course. The shipping is going to cost me $139.00, but I think I can handle that.
So, kudos to Pinwall Cycle Parts. Check'em out!!
