Posts: 256 08/12/07 8:59 PM Second Officer	Tags : None I've put 3 front tires on my bike, with each tire wearing about 2-3000 miles faster than the previous one. The front tire is cupping with an obvious whirrrr sound when you lean into a turn. I just mounted a new front tire before my recent 3,700 mile round trip to New York. It is already whirring again in turns. These are the stock Dunlops I've been running. These tire sizes are not common. Anybody know of some better tires? I'm soon to replace the rear. I'm wondering if the front fork springs are wearing and need to be replaced with some Progresssive Springs. This could cause premature front tire wear. I'm running the manufacturer's recommended air pressure. Smoothcruz North Florida

Posts: 5937 08/13/07 11:19 AM	SmoothCruz, I have had 6 stock front tires and have been getting 15,000 to 17,000 miles down to the wear bars with them. I am running a higher pressure than the recommended 33 psi. I usually run 38 psi in the front tire. None of this information may have to do with you getting less life out of each successive tire, but you are probably correct that you have some worn components. How many miles do you have on your T now? Fred

Posts: 256 08/13/07 5:13 PM Second Officer	35,000 on my T . 4,000m on the new front tire. New York round trip was 3,700 miles. It was mounted just before I left for New York. I run 33psi on the front, I think. Whatever it reads on the swingarm label.

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 695 08/13/07 8:00 PM	Do you know if the forks have at least been serviced? ever? I got nearly 15k from my front tire. It still had a little more life before the wear bars but it was already slipping in the rain so I changed it before a long trip I had planned. I kept mine at 36psi like many others here. No feathering or cupping. The "whirring" sound when leaned over is not necessarily abnormal. The tread pattern on the sides of the tire is different so it will make a different sound when in contact with the ground. If it hasn't been done within the past 2 years, I would suggest at least replacing the fork oil and checking the springs while you have them out. If they are different lengths you may want to replace them. If they are a bit short, you can increase the length of the spacer to compensate. It's not the best fix, but it will do to help restore ride height. duke loud horns save lives
