doesn't surprise me, what with motel rooms so high. i went in '05 and '06. most motels were from $150 to $250 per night. i lucked out and found a
vacancy at a motel 6 for $90. second year, we rented a fifth wheel rv people had at their home for $125 per night. then, with the price of gas, you can rack up
a pretty good bill for a few days riding. if i ever go back, i'd go when the rally is not going on. mostly what i did was ride the countryside anyway, and
i've been told the nicest motels are no more than 50 bucks in the off season. there are so many great rallys going on around the country, that probably has
a little to do with it too. it is beautiful country to ride and i'd encourage anybody to go there wheather it's during the rally or not. later, bud

I was there the week before Memorial Day in 2002. There was nobody there. It was beautiful.

My favorite time to be in the Sturgis area is most anytime in September. In late Sept. you can expect basically no people with beautiful star filled skies
with lows in the low 40's and daytime blue skies and highs near 70. Now if that isn't perfect, I don't know what is.

this is good news. by the time my friend gets his Harley-Volkwagen trike finished, Sturgis attendance should be down to just the real riders. then maybe
I'll go to the rally.
the downturn in the economy probably has more to do with this than anything. the slowdown of HD sales and the temporary closing of the Sporty plant is all due to people in general having less 'mad money' to spend on toys. The increased cost of putting gas in the tank of their 8mpg hummer/excursion/oversize road pig is finally catching up to their budgets. but instead of going to more efficient vehicles they give up the luxuries and un-necessaries first. In my mind, my bikes aren't a luxury. They're my transportation and my recreation.

I've never been to Sturgis, so all of my opinions are based upon tv specials, internet and third party accounts.
