Oh darn!
Guess I'll have to go back up there in 2009 and make sure they did it right!! On our ill-fated trip this year, riding Skyline Drive was one of our fondest rides. Marsha and I took an entire day to ride it. It is so beautiful up there and , there are so many palces to stop and look. I did notice that the pavement was in bad shape in several places. However, at 35 MPH, it didn't make much difference. -Dan Some days all you can do is smile and wait for some kind soul to come pull you out of the bind you've gotten yourself into. |

I came across this last night as I was planning some next season rides. I only live about 40 miles from the northern most entrance of the Skyline Drive but I
have never traveled it on a bike. So this bit of news was kind of disappointing. On the positive side you're only looking at 34 miles of roadwork. I
believe I'll still keep this ride on my calender for next summer.

Skip,
My brother and his two Harley friends rode about 20 miles on the Skyline's Drive dirt and gravel. Navigating slippery, steep and tight turns was harrowing for them fully loaded as they were on their way to the 5th Annual T Rally. It may be better to wait until the construction is complete, or else take a dirt bike with you when you go that way.

Thanks for the post Skip.
I have been thinking of heading East next June, and I know in the back of my head I was considering re-visiting that route (I went down that way when I was living in Ohio). I hope this does not dampen anyones plans for the Honda Hoot. I am thinking of attending that ride next year. Like Skip said, it is only 34 miles of road that you have to cross-off your list. David
