Intreresting, very interesting.. I sure remember fuzz & pig too. I am an older guy, so those are terms I have heard & been called. Rabbi Glenn, hope
you get to feeling better soon. There is a lot of the virus/flu going around here now too. BTW, I use burninfilm because I started with film and stayed with it
even after digital became popular...Bob <><

I remember the term 'Fuzz'. I remember I got in a lot of fights over it the shower during gym class. I'm glad those days are gone.

I was so surprised that I was able to get my credentials set up that I had no time to come up with anything ingenious. In my case, the Marman is a
hybridization of my name and the 007 was the first set of numbers that came to mind when I found that Marman was already taken ! No reference to my vocation,
choice of beverage, luck with the ladies and no, no license to kill - just a motorcycle endorsment stamped on the back of my Drivers license.

I guess I lack imagination also. Growing up I loved watching the Sherlock Holmes series. One of Dr. Watson's favorite expressions of suprise is "Great
Scot!". As my first name is Scott, it always stuck with me. The 51 is the year of my birth.
I could have done something with beams - as in "Beam me up Scotty", but I never liked being called Scotty. It lead to many fights and a broken nose. Scott "Silence is golden, duct tape is silver" |

Burninfilm (Bob),
Do you have a website where you display some of your photos? I would really enjoy seeing that. I like taking pictures, but I am no where close to being professional. Nothing excites me more that riding through a scenic area and looking for camera angles. I'll stop wherever I can fit my motorcycle and sometimes even, backtrack when I think I have spotted a great angle. Naturally, I am riding alone when I do this as nobody else would put up with it.

I'm no expert but I do like composing natural shots like you.

David & Alain,
I find that it is difficult for me to stop riding and take pictures. I like riding that much. However, I also love composing pictures so I force myself to do some stopping every trip I take. Once I start taking pictures I get in that mode and just keep snapping away. Back in 1979 I worked for a few months taking pictures of finishers at marathons. It was not unusual to go through 30 rolls of film (36 pictures per roll) in just a few hours. Since then I have not taken that many pictures in such a short time, but just last weekend I found myself snapping 125 pictures in a little over a hour's time. Now you can see why I am so conflicted. I am not much of a fisherman and therefore did not ever get conflicted over whether to fish or cut bait, but to ride or snap pictures, that is a perplexing question to me.

David, I no longer maintain a site, but there are a few on my photos here:
http://www.slidellphotoclub.org/bobgunn.asp My best photojournalistic work is in the archives of the publications that I was shooting for. The ad photos are either way back in someone's cabinet or gone completely. These are some that the photo club keeps on their site. The bio info is old too. The country count is at 16 and I have added to the education. The mountains did win a travel photo award. Now the shooting is for fun and when I am in that mood. I also like to stop more than some to enjoy the beauty.. Bob <>< |

Such fantastic pictures Bob. I wish Clingman's Dome had looked that good when I climbed up there in 2001.

Thanks,
Clingmans dome is rarely that clear. I found some snow up there in Oct. 2006 and shot some. Much of my gear was lost in hurricane katrina so I did 4 assignments (2 newspaper, 1 magazine and 1 national client) following the storm and then pulled the plug...Glad you enjoyed them. The boat scene was shot in Florianopolis, SC, Brasil. I was documenting a mission teams' work there and got up early to take a walk. Found that scene just a couple of blocks from the hotel. All shot with film, except the black civil war re-enactor, which was digi. (Nikon D-1 that now swims with the fishes). Clingmans shot on Kodak Elite Chrome 100, as was flower and Davenport Gap. (It was cold on the trail that morning) Brazillian memories shot on Kodak Print film ISO 200 I think. (All film shots on Canon EOS 3). True story about that film body. It was laying on a foam babybed mattress when katrina flooded our area. The mattress floated up and stayed that way until the waters subsided when it gently settled leaving the camera unharmed. Canon does a good job of weather sealing their pro bodies.... Bob <>< |

Skip,
Thanks...I think it is haunting too. That was taken in a little civil war era church in TN. I could imagine a mother/sister/wife/fiance sitting there praying or grieving. Perhaps a happy friend of the bride or maybe a weary traveler who is about to meet their Lord. Oops, the just by Chance was also shot on Elite Chrome 100. The print of that one was above the water during katrina and now hangs in our guest room. Naturally, all slides, negatives, magazine and newspaper clips as well as most prints stored and displayed around our home are gone. Over 35 years of work....oh well, we are still alive and well and all of our family pretty much intact, so it could be much worse....Bob <>< |

Bob,
I really love your Clingman's Dome Sunset shot. The colors and the shades are fantastic. I remember taking photos something like that in the Smokey Mountains, but mine did not turn out like yours. LOL. In the Just by Chance shot it looks like your metered on the mountains in the background for exposure. I'm guessing it was not easy to do that, as it was a very small portion of the image. In Can You Imagine, I liked the way you lined up elements in the shot. It must be difficult to have part of your life work stored away in someone else's archive. I believe that someone was looking out for you when your camera was placed gently, back into your hands after going through one of the Worlds worst catastrophes. That is a remarkable story. I hope you will continue to share some of your beuatiful photos with us in the future. Thanks

Bob, I was writing my reply when you had just previously made your reply. I am very sorry to hear about the terrible loss that you suffered from Katrina. I
hope life has been kinder to you since then.

Alain, I want to ride with you too. I have found a kindred spirit to ride with! I have been planning a ride back east, but the timing is in the hands of
someone else, so I can't say when. I hope to time the trip with a club event, so we could possibly meet then.
Fredrider, I, too, am conflicted about the riding vs. photo dilemma, when I ride with a group. When you get together with your buddies to ride, the ride has to be the top priority, but I really have to suppress the urge to stop for the pictures. Now if I rode with you and Alain, I don't know what would happen. LOL.
