HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3539 03/21/08 11:18 PM	Tags : None I visited the chrome plater today and got some rough estimates on chroming a set of bag guards/rails. These are made from chrome moly tubing for which is more expensive than std steel tubing. I need input as to how many think they would be interested in a set of bag rails, and what is a fair price for them. I need this info to determine if there is enough market for the bag guard rails to warrant buying the special equipment needed to fabricate the rails. I can't duplicate the front bar mounts because these are cast metal, but can get around this using Kuryakyn's polished SS Magnum Quick Clamps. I have a set of damaged Cobra rails to use as a guide. It simplify fabrication a lot if I they did not go all the way around the bag like Cobra's do, but I like the the look better and will make every effort to do this. I'm looking at around $500 - $600 for special bender and dies to make the bends, to modify my current welding equipment, and to purchase proper polishing equipment. Fully prepped rails that are ready to chrome as they are will cost me about $60 a set for the chroming. Material costs will be around $70 more. That's $130 minimum right off the bat. If I sold them for $200 a set, then that only leaves me $70 to recoup what tooling and equipment will cost. I would have to sell at least 10 sets to break even. This is why I need input as to how many people will likely be wanting these. If I did decide to do this and the rails sell good, then I might would try custom light bars next.
