I know how you feel, Bob. I was out doing some last minute cleaning on my T today in preparation to show it off to a couple of prospective buyers that will be
at our Churches Biker Day tomorrow. I realized that it could very well be my last ride on her and my emotions began to stir. As I went over it looking for any
dirty spots that I missed, I could not help but think of all the fun times we had together. I don't usually get emotional about in-adamant possessions, but
this time it was different. Of all the bikes I have ever owned, this one was always my favorite. I have not really pushed selling it yet because part of me
hopes it won't sell. But, because I love this bike so much, it means I have to let it go. It's not fair to let it sit in the garage so much when
someone else could be having those great times on her, too. If I were the only rider, I would be selling the Wing instead. I am not looking forward to tomorrow
right now.

Boy, what a sad picture.
Like Dawg said, that day is coming for most of us at some point. We could feel your pain. Now that she's ridden off into the sunset, you're not going to leave us, are you? That would really hurt. Greg

I understand your longing for a Wing. I had the same feeling for a few years when I had my old VT1100 Shadow. Finally two years ago I found a great deal on a
used GL1200I and bought it and sold my Shadow. Well, after a year and a half of riding it I decided it was more bike than I really wanted. I found my
"new" 98 T at a local dealership for a good price and bought it. Fantastic bike...just perfect for me @ 5'11" and 260lbs. I now have the
Wing on ebay for sale. My wife says she likes riding the T better than the Wing because she feels like shes on a bike again. Just a little food for thought...

hey bob,
i've stood in those shoes many times. some may think as much as i sell/trade that i don't get an attachment to any of them, but believe me, i do. i put a lot of effort into making my bikes unique, as i did with my custom cars, and when you see all that hard work and sweat going out the driveway, it can't help but hurt a little. i always tell lillian it's just a hunk of metal, but deep down i know it's a hunk of metal i'm going to miss. but, it helps knowing it's going to give another a lot of enjoyment too. one of the vehicles i became most attached was when i lived in branson was an old pickup. i was in springfield mo. one day and saw this 1950 ford pickup sitting at a muffler shop. stopped to look and it was an original (almost) pickup with only 22k miles. it looked brand new, and this was around 1973! it had the old ford flathead v8 with dual carbs, and offenhauser heads, dual exhaust that sounded awesome, and he had added a set of chrome reverse wheels. asked the owner if he'd sell it and bottom line, i took a "new" pickup home that day. before i left springfield, stopped at another shop in the truck and the guy there knew it and asked what i was doing in it. told him i bought it and he just looked at me. think he thought i'd stolen it. he told me that guy would never sell that truck. guess i was just there when he decided he would. it became "old blue" and i absolutely loved that truck. i had it probably longer than any of my old cars. sad part is years (probably 20) later, i drove to carthage mo. to a friend that deals in old cars and there was my truck. but, "old blue" was in serious need of restoration. over the years, i guess somebody owned it that just didn't love and care for it like i did. my first thoughts were to buy it and restore it, but later decided to just keep the memories of it from years back. i often wonder if somebody did restore the truck. bud |

Suck it up, panty waste.
If you hated selling it so bad, you should have kept it. That's a DFT Trike in the picture. That's what you should get to travel around on. Better than some boring ass RV!! I'm going to have to start hanging out on a different board. HSATF is becoming and old man, "oh I'm afraid to ride, I think I'll retire and buy an RV" place !! PLUS.........Y'all are getting way too warm and fuzzy, touchy-feely for me. Looks like Elvira will end up staying in the family as my youngest son is going to buy her from me. I will at least get to ride her from time to time!! I'll try and stay away from the RVer's during nap time.

Bob,
One door closes, another opens. When you are out and about this summer, and you keep turning to look at bikes going past, you'll know if you made the right decision or not. If the itch gets too bad, you can scratch it again. If you want the wind in your face, you might want to see about getting Air Wings installed on your pickup truck.
BTW, I couldn't begin to count all of the RVers that had bikes with them in Florida this winter. At one park, there was a row of about 25 RVs and there were four trikes in that row. Two Wings, an Ultra, and a 750 Shadow ridden by a 78 year old biker chick. The guy I'm parked across from right now has a 20 year old Harley he has restored to mint condition. Every day he opens the backdoor ramp to his trailer and starts it up, my PMS kicks in. Since I've been in Florida, I've seen Silver Wings, Helixes, and Burgmanns, as well as Wings, Stars, Boulevards, Nomads, Softails, and Ultras. These RVers aren't napping. They're out riding! I've been to the Yamaha dealer here in Clermont 4 times talking about the Royal Star Venture. Being on a fixed income, I won't be able to keep my T if I decide to get the Yamaha. Has anyone here on the forum heard anything good or bad about the bike?

That pic reminds me of the day I sold my Shadow, but then I looked over where it was parked and there was the "T" I just bought that morning. A sad
and good day in one. I cannot imagine not having two wheels to get out on but I also can't imagine having an RV to go out and travel the country in.

Stony.
The only negative thing I have ever heard about the Venture is that it is slightly under powered. I ride with a guy that rides an '84 Venture Royal with a Voyager trike kit. I have bee impressed with the way it rides and handles. The only negative he has expressed is that it get bad gas mileage. About 26-28 MPG. -Dan

Bob,
What can I say... I know how you feel. Started getting some interest in my Goldwing. Kind of had the same meeting and thoughts this past weekend. As I was walking around town this past weekend, I reflected on 'The End' of my long distance, touring days. I've always wondered how it would end. Would I walk away from riding? Would it end in a crash? A semi-conscious driver on a cell phone making a left turn in front of me? Someone running a red light? Rear ended at a traffic light? A semi, driving left of center on a blind turn in SE Ohio? Andy |

The only negative thing that I have heard on the Venture is that it is very top heavy and especially two up. I talked to 2 owners of them at our church Biker
Day last Sunday and they both said the same thing. Bad MPG and too top heavy. Other than that they are near bullet proof as far as reliability. I really like
the sound of that V4 engine.
I would buy Andy's Wing, or a new one and be done with it. Forty+ MPG on an 1800cc bike is not bad at all, and the reliability and list of goodies available is second to none. Stan
