Dallas area tips and hints? |
Lead | ||
|
John and I may be traveling to the Dallas area, and I'm wondering if anyone on this forum lives there. Can you give me your "take" on the area?
You know the Chamber of Commerce sites only give you the GOOD - I want to hear both sides of the story! I don't have the details yet, but I think we'll
be headed toward the Plano area.
Thanks in advance to my fellow travelers! Dawn Live It, Love It, Paint It, Ride It!

Plano - man that's right in the heart of the DFW area isn't it? I haven't been there in my "luxurious" rv yet. I avoid the big cities if
possible. Tell us more when it's not so secret. I had best go check your blog for more info....

LOL, Scott, there's no info in my blog, either.

You'll be closer to some of the best riding I've found - the hills in the heart of Texas.

Is this a road trip, or a plane ride? If it's a road trip and y'all pass through my neck of the woods (TN,MS, or AL) then give me a yell.

Hi Stan, we'd be heading there by plane. TN, MS, or AL is a HUGE chunk of territory - can't I just yell now and just say, if you're heading towards
Danville, VA, stop in and see us!

Dawn, I grew up in Irving, just west of Dallas. Although it's been over thrity years since I left there, I have been back a few times to see my family. I
can tell you this, the really cool things to see are in the small towns in between Dallas and Ft Worth. Arlington has become one of the most visited towns in
Texas. It is kind of the epicenter of places to visit while in the 'DalWorth Metroplex'. In the center of Arlington, there is a wide assortment of
attractions such as amusements parks, museums, and major ball parks of Dallas' professional teams. (The Cowboys' new 'billion' dollar stadium
is currently under construction there.) One of my favorite amusement parks in the whole world is the original Six Flags over Texas. Anything you do in that
locale, or the immediate surrounding towns, will probably be a very enjoyable experience. It's a very nice area.
The area that you mentioned is just that.....'Plain ole Texas'. Not much going on there. Having not been back in Texas in a while, that's all I can tell you. Good luck. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the info, Gary. Awwww, poooooooop, since it's not football season, I totally forgot that's the Cowboys hometown. I guess I'll have to
keep my intense love for the Green Bay Packers under my hat, so to speak! (I used to live on Packerland Drive in Green Bay - ahhh, those were the days! But
dang, I HATED the cold and snow.)

I should have written it: I figured 50% of the forum was off running around the country in their luxurious RV's or
Miatas, and they could give me the poop on Dallas!
I wish I would have joined here earlier when some of those Miata's were up for sale - that is my dream car (well, besides a '57 or 58 'vette with that sexy rounded rear). OMG - I think I figured out why I fell in love with my T! It's the cute round butt!!! AHA! (disclaimer: of course, now that I'm in the midst of buying sparkle and farkle for the T, I have no money for a Miata) Live It, Love It, Paint It, Ride It!

Hey, let's set the record straight. 80% of the forum that rides year-round is in Texas.
80% of the smart-aleck posts about winter are from Dan.
Although I've only been to the Metro-mess a handful of times, what has been mentioned would also reflect my observations. The smaller cities between the two major ones are the ones attracting the visitors and transplants. Look at Grapevine, Arlington, Grand Prairie and further north is Flower Mound. If you have time, visit Moto Liberty in Dallas. Voted the best motorcycle gear shop in Texas. www.motoliberty.com

Duke, thanks for the city list to check out. I checked out that link - oooooooh, a free crawdad boil on the 20th! Too bad we aren't heading out that
soon. The last crawdad fest I attended was somewhere near Destin, FL, quite a few years ago. MMMMMM. I couldn't bring myself to bite the heads off like my
Uncle did, but I can sure eat a huge bucket of crawdad tails, especially if they are hot and spicy.
