My only complaint about the T |
Lead | ||
|
The @#%^*&* gas tank is too small. (and there aren't many gas stations in the hills around Eureka Springs)

That's the only one Scott? In the past owners have complained about that and wanting a 6 gear, fuel injection, more lean angle, a robust electrical system
(stator and voltage regulator), a stronger headlight, a more comfortable seat and a cross-over pipe without an acute angle bend. I agree the gas tank is too
small. IMHO, real Tourers can go at least 200 miles on a tank of gas.

Well gee Fred, now that you mention it, all of the things that we've mentioned probably would have been addressed in the last 8 years if Honda took their
collective head out of their arse and continued making the Tourer.

Alain,
Although I want all those things too, I still do not see another hard bagger that is as close to perfect as our beloved T's. In other words, in my eyes all the rest of the hard baggers have more imperfections than the T does and the imperfections the T does have are either fixable or livable without much hardship at all. Long live our T's!!!!

got a whole lot of miles over a whole lot of years on a whole lot of motorcycles. So when you say that you do not see another hard bagger that is as close to
perfect as out beloved T's, I know that means something.

Did anyone get the Rider magazine with the midsized tourer comparison. None of them had hard bags. They even admit that the VTX tourer is just the VTX with
accessories bolted on from the Honda catalog.
What made a tourer? Windshield, saddlebags and passenger backrest. FYI, my '06 Electra Glide is looking for a gas station ~165 miles. I've taken it to 180 but was nervous. |

Fred you hit the nail right on the head. Our T's are not perfect but damn close! If only honda had added that 6th gear!!

I'm grateful to be able to be in the wind at all.
The T is icing on the cake for me (given that I moved up from a VLX 600). Hey, Alain - does the June 7th gathering still appear to be in the forecast? Jesus will rock Planet Earth! (Revelation 6:12-17) Are you ready? |

I would also like to see if we can get GaleRich and ragtops69gs to meet with us also. I think that Chicago lives in Michigan too, but not close to Detroit.

and there aren't many gas stations in the hills around Eureka Springsfirst time rudy and i rode the "pig trail" we suddenly realized we should have filled up first. neither of us had a map, so we didn't know where we might find another town/gas station. we finally stopped and rudy called a friend in kansas city and told him approximately where we were and he checked a map and said it looked like we still had about ten miles before we got to that little general store(forgot what they call it). luckily, we made it, but that taught us a lesson about keeping the tank full when we don't know where we are. bud |

Haha. The small tank is just the tip of the iceberg. Where does one begin?
An adjustable suspension would be nice. Air forks and adjustable compression/rebound damping in the front would be great. btw, there's this feature called anti-dive forks that was introduced on bikes over 20 years ago. Air shocks in the rear to better carry a fully laden bike. Dual front disc brakes so it doesn't feel like I'm trying to stop a freight train with a bicycle coaster brake. Don't need a 6th gear, just a taller 5th would do fine. 17 inch wheels please. Many more choices for great touring tires. Hydraulic clutch so the clutch springs can be beefed up to handle more torque. True dual exhaust. If you're gonna hang cans on each side, why waste it with a single exhaust? High output alternator. C'mon, a touring bike is gonna have electrical accessories. Heated clothing, gps, radio, radar detector, etc are part and parcel of motorcycle touring. There is no perfect bike out there. The T does a pretty nice job of compromising style, cost and ability. It would be even better if Honda had kept the bean counters away from the design after the engineers were done with it.
